The Blank Scroll (Japanese: 白紙の巻物) is a Scroll in 
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer.
Blank Scrolls are the only Items that include a 'write' option on their menu. Successfully writing the name of a previously read scroll will change the item into 'Blank:_____' with the name of the written scroll, which can then be read to produce the written scrolls effect.
Writing on a blank scroll does not consume a turn. You can thus safely put off writing on the scroll until you need to use it. Writing on a blank scroll is permanent, even if an incorrect name was written. Writing the name incorrectly or the name of a scroll that you haven't read before will waste the scroll, as will reading an unwritten Blank Scroll.
Adventure Log Entries
Adventure Log entry #25 requires the player to 'Read the Blank Scroll' that has no name written on it. This will produce no effects other than earning the log entry. Reading a 'Blank:Invalid' scroll will also satisfy this task.
Sanctuary and Destruction Scrolls
As Sanctuary Scrolls and Destruction Scrolls cannot be found anywhere during normal gameplay, the Blank Scroll is the only way of obtaining these scrolls. However, because you can only write on a Blank Scroll the name of a scroll that you have previously read, these two scrolls are unlocked by alternate methods:
Sanctuary: Can be written after the first time Table Mountain is completed and the Golden Condor is freed. A Golden Condor icon can confirm this as well as Character dialogue.
Destruction: Can be written after travelling from Canyon Hamlet (1 F) to the Golden City (30 F) without doing any of the following:
- Entering any Warehouse (including the one in Canyon Hamlet). After finishing an adventure or selecting 'give up' the player will spawn inside the Inn next to the warehouse. This is where the journey to the Golden City must begin without entering the warehouse.
- Inserting any item into a Storehouse Jar.
- Speaking to any Couriers.
- Taking any Wagons shortcuts. Talking to Gara the Wagoner or Goro the Wagon Driver will not ruin the attempt, but actually using the wagon service will.
Being Rescued will not prevent the scroll from being writable as long as the above conditions are met.
Tips For Use
- Conserve Blank Scrolls for emergency situations. Scrolls of Need and Scrolls of Removal are popular candidates if Sanctuary Scrolls and Destruction Scroll have not been unlocked.
- Create opportunities to collect items and Traps by creating Monster Houses by reading Monster Scrolls, though, make sure you are prepared.
- Recycle certain Jars for more uses by removing their contents with an Extraction Scroll. This is effective with Jars of Change and Strengthening Jars though will not for Melding Jars as slots are combined when items are.
Things to Avoid
- Creating common scrolls such as Air Bless Scrolls, Earth Bless Scrolls, Blastwave Scrolls and Scrolls of Light is considered a waste of a Blank Scroll.

Names for Scrolls
Blank Scroll written names are not case or space sensitive. To create an Air Bless Scroll it is possible to write, "AIR BLESS", "airbless" or any combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, "aIrBlesS".

Trivia
- On first completion of all 50 Fay's Puzzles, Fay the Researcher will reward Shiren with 3 Blank Scrolls.
- When sending Rescue Gifts of Blank Scrolls that have been written on, (Invalid or a valid name of a scroll), they will become unused Blank Scrolls when received by the other player.
