The Ravine of the Dead (Japanese: 死者の谷底) is a challenging Post-credits dungeon that can be unlocked when you've finished the My Brother Pekeji (quest) and Bungee Jumping Quests. It's a challenging, 50 floor dungeon that requires you to save a sickly green Pekeji on your first trip through, He starts appearing on floor 26. Rescuing Pekeji will award you a Top Menu Icon. After you've cleared the dungeon for the first time, starting from floor 27 there will be a Transport Pattern on the floor as well as the stairs. This dungeon has only 50 numbered floors, though using the stairs on floor 50 will bring you to another floor 50, leading to potentially infinite floors. Monster spawns will appear in an alternating pattern.
Dungeon Strategies
This is not a dungeon you can simply run through when bored. If you're unlucky with Monster Houses, a 99+ Weapon and Shield is not enough to get you through unscathed. Monsters start at level 2, and go up to level 4. At the start of every new floor, equip and unequip a Trap Armband so that all fake staircases will disappear.
Dangerous Ability Monsters
Rice Changer Family - Inflicts the 'Riceball' status on Shiren.
Flying Fowl Family - Destroys inventory items
Leech Worm Family - Depletes maximum Strength
Cell Armor Family - Knocks equipped items away
Field Bandit Family - Changes floor and inventory items into Weeds
Gaze Family - Hypnotized Shiren, forcing random actions for the turn.
Curse Girl Family - Curses inventory items.
Ghost Radish Family - Causes various negative Status Abnormalities and decreases current Strength
Green Slime Family - Removes Runes and rusts your Weapon and Shield
Thiefwalrus Family - Steals items and warps away or disappears.
Monster Houses
- Monster Houses are extremely frequent. It's not uncommon for Great Hall Monster Houses to appear on multiple consecutive floors. Special Monster Houses are about 1 in 10 chance compared to normal and are full of specialized Monsters. An Antidrain Armband can be of use in Drain Houses.
- There are Air Devil Family monsters in the ravine which can make fighting monster houses 100% safer if you become Invisible using their meat.
- If you don't have an Armband of Sight to look out for small Monster Houses, the maximum number of monsters that can be on a floor is 19, so triggering a Summons Trap that fails to spawn any monsters or less than 3, may indicate the presence of a Monster House.
Monsters
- Bring a weapon with a Razor Wind seal. You don't want to be surrounded, let alone by multiple Cell Armor Family who will knock your equipment into oblivion before you can act.
- Have a way to neutralize the abilities of powerful enemies from a distance:
- A Staff of Paralysis.
- A Staff of Postpone is effective but you'll have to fight them again at the stairs. But that shouldn't be a problem if you're prepared for this dungeon.
- A Doppelganger Staff can also work temporarily, but will definitely produce level 3 and 4 monsters.
- Sky Dragons, Ark Dragons, Oldster Tanks and Cranky Tanks, will destroy you from a distance if you don't have appropriate seals on your shield, and even so, much HP is required to endure a Cranky Tank's Double Speed and double attack, so grind up on early floors while the monsters are still docile.
- As an Inferno Family Monster Shiren is immune to fire damage, which can be effective against Ark and Sky Dragons. Cranky Tank cannons however, will cause the monster that Shiren is currently, to multiply, which will attack the player.
- While inside walls as a Pacorepkin Family or as a Death Angel or Death Master will prevent Sky Dragons and Ark Dragons from breathing homing fire at Shiren. Remember when exiting the wall, that Shiren is a monster and any
seal will be inactive. If Monster-Shiren is hit by dragon fire they will take full fixed damage instead of half.
- Bring a vast collection of Chiropractic Jars, just don't let them get Cursed like everything else.
- Sleepless Armband are very common, and for good reason. But don't rely on finding one, be prepared and bring one along. With Sleep Radishes and Green Slime Family it's easy to get surrounded and stuck in a loop ever-decreasing equipment strength, and after a slow, 1 damage per turn death, there won't be any point to being Rescued because your equipment is now cursed and of -99 power with not seals left.
- Don't let a Roguewalrus take your items! They don't warp away to somewhere on the floor, they warp out of existence.
Traps
- 99% of stairs are traps so bring a Trap Armband or a Staff of Postpone that will last 50+ uses. Using Monster Meat to transform and examine the stairs underfoot gets very tedious when you're in a Monster House on the verge of death.
- There's only 9 types of Traps in Ravine of the Dead, and they are everywhere. All your best Items will be cursed in seconds, and without a Staff of Stability all your Jars will yield to Stumble Traps. Not to mention your Strength to Poison Dart Traps. Best solution is to bring a Trap Armband and not be affected by traps, rather than endure their effects.
