The Skull Mage (Japanese: ガイコツまどう, Gaikotsumadō Kei) Monster Family in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer consists of:

  1. Skull Mage (Japanese: ガイコツまどう, Gaikotsumadō)
  2. Skull Wizard (Japanese: ガイコツまじん, Gaikotsumajin)
  3. Skull Wraith (Japanese: ガイコツまおう, Gaikotsumaō)
  4. Skull Demon (Japanese: ガイコツまてん, Gaikotsumaten)

Skull Mage monsters appear as lean skeletal figures hovering lightly above the ground, adorned in a loose and tattered hooded cloak. The hood of the cloak is decorated by a rounded ornament and three feather-like blades branching from the top and sides. The skull face of these monsters has glowing orbs in the eye sockets and in its bony left hand, wields a simplistic wooden staff with a curled lobe-like top.

The color of the monster's cloak, staff, head ornament jewel, feathers, and eyes depends on its level. The staff colour remains brown/orange in levels 1 - 3, but changes to red at level 4, which also occurs for the monster's eyes. Additionally, this is also seen for the color of the feathers atop the monster's hood, orange/beige in levels 1 - 3 and red at level 4. The jewel in the monster's head ornament is black in levels 1 - 2, but in levels 3 - 4 becomes green.

  • 1 - Olive green, orange
  • 2 - Sky blue, orange
  • 3 - Magma orange, orange
  • 4 - Black, red

When physically attacking, the right hand of the monster is enveloped in an orange glow as it positions its feet on the ground and brings its open hand forwards in a strong push.

When using its magic ability, Skull Mages plant their feet on the ground, settling their magic staff in the middle in front of them, and generate an initially green magical orb at the top of the staff, which is brought above the monster's head by both hands, before flinging it forwards, where the orb changes into a light blue magical bolt.
