The Pain Sharing Staff (Japanese: 痛み分けの杖) is a Staff introduced to the Super Famicom release of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer.

Hitting a target with a magic bolt or by throwing this staff will cause the target to receive the same damage that Shiren endures. The damage Shiren takes from an attack depends on the upgrade value of the equipped Shield if any, which may be very low. Accordingly, the same low damage will be dealt to the target monster.

Shiren must survive the damage for it to also be dealt to the target. Critical Hit damage that Shiren takes will also be taken by the target.

Hitting another target with a magic bolt will change the receiver of damage to the new target. The target will still take identical damage as Shiren even if they transform into a monster after casting the magic bolt.

Tips For Use

If you plan to endure high damage, make sure you are able to heal Shiren. Chiropractic Jars or Scrolls of Need are recommended.
Hit the target that is damaging Shiren with the Pain Sharing Staff, and they will defeat themselves by attacking Shiren.
Hit Boss-Type Monsters with the Pain Sharing Staff while fighting other monsters to slowly decrease their HP, while keeping your distance from them with a Knockback Staff.
Equip an Armband of Regret to increase the chance of taking critical hits to 48-50%^{[Data needed]} when monster attacks hit. As long as Shiren can endure high damage attacks, other monsters can quickly be defeated using a Pain Sharing Staff.
