The Staff of Sloth (Japanese: 鈍足の杖) is a Staff introduced to the Nintendo DS port of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (game).

Opposite to the Accelerating Staff, when swung, it will fire a bolt that will permanently decrease the speed of the target entity, Monster or Character by one level. See Movement Speed and 'Double Speed' status.

There are 4 movement speed levels:
Double Speed:Double Attack → Double Speed:Single Attack → Normal → Slow

Entities that have had their speed decreased to Slow, or were already at this level, cannot be slowed down any further, and additional magic bolts will have no effect.

Tips For Use

• Using this staff on a normal speed monster will inflict the 'Slow' status on them, giving Shiren another turn before they can act. Move one space away in this time for the monster to follow, attack them once, and repeat to defeat them while unharmed.
• Because the speed of the target was decreased artificially, 'Sealing' them will not return their speed to 'Normal'.

Things to Avoid

• A magic bolt from a Staff of Sloth will slow Shiren or Allies down so they can only act for 4 slow turns (8 normal).
