The Staff of Happiness (Japanese: ふき飛ばしの杖) is a staff introduced to the Super Famicom release of Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer (game). When swung, it will fire a bolt that increases the level of its target by 1. Monsters that increase in levels this way will not act that turn. Reflected bolts from a Staff of Happiness will give Shiren 500 XP.
Tips For Use
- Normally, it is an absurdly bad idea to Swing a Staff of Happiness at an enemy monster. However, if you have a Bufu's Staff or a weapon with the Meat seal, and you encounter a monster (like a Hell Reaper or a Dadster Tank) that becomes very powerful when promoted, consider zapping it with the Staff in order to collect its meat.
- Another common use is on low level monsters very early in the game to create a single high level monster for massive experience. Use Gitan or the monster's special weakness (riceball on Rice Masters, healing items on the undead) to dispose of the otherwise unkillable monster.
- One leveling trick in the early floors of Fay's Final Puzzle is to level up a Mamel to a Gitan Mamel, then knocking it back a couple times using a Knockback Staff. The Gitan Mamel has very little health, will offer a nice Experience boost as well as drop 2,000 Gitan.
