Shiren 1 DS:Trap
Traps (Japanese: ワナ) are found on the ground in Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. They cause various effects when tripped on. They can be seen by stepping on them, checking an otherwise empty tile by attacking it, eating a Herb of Sight, wearing a Trap Armband or transforming into a member of the Mecharoid Family. Monsters are affected by traps while Shiren wears a Trap Armband.
Combat with Traps
If Shiren wears a Trap Armband and becomes a Trap Master, Shiren will be able to see traps and avoid them, and monsters will be affected by traps. Shiren will also be able to pick up, place, and trigger traps. By increasing a Trap Strategy, the amount of Experience Points gained when defeated a monster can be multiplied, however, defeating a monster without a multiplier will only reward 1 experience point.
Floating-Type Monsters will not be affected by traps unless Shiren reads a Super Trap Scroll or throws the traps as a Trap Master.
- See Broken Trap Recycling for more info.
Changes between the effect of a trap on Shiren, and on monster are listed in the table below. If Shiren has traps in his inventory but is not wearing a Trap Armband, they will become Broken Traps when entering towns.
While transformed as a Mecharoid Family Monster, Shiren will gain some qualities of a Trap Master, in that monsters excluding Floating-Type monsters will be affected by traps, and will all only reward 1 experience point without a multiplier. Monster-Shiren can also create traps on the floor.
Floor Trap Limits
The maximum number of traps that can be on a floor is 99. When attempting to place another trap down while equipping a Trap Armband, the player will be greeted with a message:
As a Mecharoid Family Monster a similar message appears when trying to create the 100th trap on a floor, which also appears when Monster-Shiren attempts to create a trap on occupied squares.
Throwing a trap or stumbling and dropping traps while there are 99 currently on the floor will cause them to fall and can no longer be used.
Read Trap Strategy for ideas about how to avoid and exploit traps.
