The Lightning Staff (Japanese: 雷光の杖) is a staff introduced to the Nintendo DS port of  Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. When swung, it will fire a bolt that will fly until it hits a wall or an entity. To most entities, the bolt that does 14 - 23^{[Data needed]} fixed damage to its target. Fixed damage always deals the same amount, and ignores defense and particular damage-negating abilities. Some of which are listed below:

• Half Warrior Family - Damage taken from the front is reduced to 1.
• Dead Soldier Family - Non-fixed damage attacks, and weapons without a Rune will only do 1 damage.

While it can be used to damage enemies in cardinal directions from Shiren, the Lightning Staff has limited homing capabilities. When facing in the general cardinal direction of a faraway enemy and swinging the staff, the bolt will home in and hit that enemy.

Tips For Use

• The fixed damage capability of the Lightning Staff can make it easier to defeat enemies with high defense, such as Gitan Mamel, or those with damage-negating abilities.
• Air Devil Family monsters will reflect magic bolts back in the direction they came. Only if this ability is removed by Sealing the monster will they take damage from the bolt.

Trivia

• The homing mechanic of the Lightning Staff is also seen in the fire-breathing ability of Sky Dragons, Ark Dragons and Hell Dragons, as when transformed, Shiren can face in the general direction of enemies for his flames to home onto them.
