Shields (Japanese: 盾) in Etrian Mystery Dungeon are items that can be equipped in an armor slot by Landsknechts, Protectors, Medics, Sovereigns and Wanderers. Each shield has a model, which can be seen when equipped by a character in a Dungeon or by reading the Item Almanac in Stein Labs.
They increase defense, can have additional effects and some of them can be forged to add effect like stats increase or resistance to status or a damage type. To be forged, each Shield requires a different amount of materials. In addition, Shields can be enchanted to a maximum of +50, each enchantment increasing defense by 1.
Shields can be bought at Chano Retail, at Red Lion Shoppe or found in dungeons. In order to be bought in Chano Retail, each Shield requires you to have sold different materials to Chano Retail. In the store at Chano Retails, shields are sorted depending on the defense.
A shield must be equipped to use some Landsknecht's skills and most Protector's skills.
