Shopkeepers (Japanese: 店主) are characters in the Shiren the Wanderer series. They debuted in Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer
1995.
Variants include the Shuten Child, an unused night variant, and the Bad Shopkeep Family. In one or more of the Shiren Cell Phone Titles from the 2000s Clerks
, Big Shopkeeper
, and the Giant Clerk Family
made appearances.[1]
The Shopkeeper Family consists of:
- Shopkeeper (Japanese: 店主)
- Shop Owner (Japanese: 店長)
- Vendor (Japanese: 店主)
- Proprietor (Japanese: 店主)
Biography
Characteristics
They often appear in dungeons and sell useful items, though they're also occasionally found in towns or villages. While they're generally neutral towards the player, they can be turned hostile if they're attacked, or if they're stolen from.
Shopkeepers are single-level monsters. In Shiren 3, shopkeepers can over-level. So for example, they may be a Shopkeeper15, if they defeat 15 monsters or the player 15 times.

Shopkeepers can level up if they defeat Shiren or another monster, character, or enemy. Shopkeepers level up to 3 in Shiren 2, Asuka, and Magic Castle GBC. In Magic Castle DS, they level up to 4.

There are 4 variants of Shopkeepers in Shiren Shiren 4: DS, PSP, and Shiren 5: DS, Vita, 2020, SP

In one or more of the Shiren Cell Phone Titles from the 2000s, the Shopkeeper Family leveled up in the following order:[1]
- Clerk
(Japanese: 店員) → Shopkeeper (Japanese: 店主) → Shop Owner (Japanese: 店長) → Big Shopkeeper
(Japanese: 大店主)
Additionally, a group of giant shopkeepers existed.[1]
