Shiren:Third Batch of Monster Families
The Third Batch of Monster Families is an unofficial term applied to the 43 Monster Families introduced in
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 2 - Shiren's Castle and the Oni Invasion in 2000, which was the fifth Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series game and the second to introduce new monsters. While many monsters had the usual 3 levels, some added the now-standard fourth level. Some changes were made to the leveling system of pre-existing families, such as Rice Changers, N'Duba's, and the Bowboy, Baby Tank, and Popster Tank families.

The mechanics of the Bowboy, Baby Tank, and Popster Tank families were altered in Shiren 2.
- Normal: Bowboy (Lv. 1) → Crossbowboy (Lv. 2) → Baby Tank (Lv. 1) → Mini Tank (Lv. 2) → Popster Tank (Lv. 1) → Dadster Tank (Lv. 2) → Oldster Tank (Lv. 3)
- Altered: Bowboy (Lv. 1) → Baby Tank (Lv. 2) → Popster Tank (Lv. 3)
In Shiren 1 SFC, Shiren 2, Save Surala, and Moonlight Village PC, the Oldster Tank was the highest-level monster in the family. The Level 4 Popster Tank was added in Shiren 1 DS, as part of the Sixth Batch of Monster Families. The monster family was again changed with Shiren 3 for the Wii in 2008 as part of the Seventh Batch of Monster Families

The leveling mechanics of the N'Duba Family were changed in Shiren 2. Instead of leveling from 1 - 3 like before, they instead level up to 99, changing color after a set number of levels, as was the case with the Inferno and Kigny families. Later games would revert the N'Duba family to their former leveling mechanics, and increase the number of Inferno and Kigny forms, similar to how the Shiren 2 N'Duba's function.
