History

Explorers Titles

It's unknown how Grovyle met the Hero and Celebi, or how they became allies. At some point, they joined the Planetary Investigation Team to change the past. As Grovyle and the Hero were traveling through time, they became separated by an unknown force before the start of the story. Grovyle isn't seen until the Partner tells the Hero about Time Gears during a stormy night, where Grovyle runs through Treeshroud Forest and he can be seen for a moment, due to a lightning strike.

When the Hero touches the Groudon Statue, they hear a voice, which is most likely Grovyle. The Hero knows the place from the knowledge they gained in the future. As the Hero and the Partner defeat Mesprit, they encounter Grovyle, however, due to the battle, neither Mesprit nor the party can fight back. When the Hero touches a Cystral shard that Bidoof had taken, they see a future vision of Grovyle beating Azelf. Due to Azelf's knowing why Grovyle's there, Azelf activates a crystal barrier so Grovyle can't get to the Time Gear. After fighting Grovyle, the Partner tries to defend Azelf. When Grovyle strikes, he's stopped by Dusknoir. Knowing he can't win, he instead flees. Eventually, Grovyle got caught, He tries trying to talk but, is unable and was sent back to the future.

Grovyle meets the Hero and Partner again when Dusknoir was about to execute them for trying to fix time. Due to his sharp thinking, the gang escapes because of Grovyle using dig. Unable to reason with the Hero and Partner about the true motives of Dusknoir, he looks for Celebi alone. When seeking out Celebi, he gets trapped by Sprittomb and is unable to move. After Sprittomb is defeated, Grovyle explains how the world became in enshrouded in darkness and how the Time Gears are the key to fixing it. He explains Dusknoir and the state of Primal Dialga. After finding Celebi, Dusknoir ambushes the party. After being overwhelmed by Primal Dialga, Grovyle gives up.

After returning to the past, Grovyle asks the Partner why they didn't give up. Their reason was that the Hero gives them hope. Grovyle understands this and says that the Hero is a special someone to him. After going getting some rest, the party heads out to Treeshroud Forest to claim the Time Gear there. Sometime after, Grovyle tells the Hero and Partner that they should split up and Grovyle isn't seen again afterward. Though he leaves two notes as the story progresses.

Grovyle rejoins the duo after facing the boss of Brine Cave. They meet up with Lapras and head for the Hidden Land. After making it to the Hidden Highland, Grovyle translates a text that details how to get to Temporal Tower. The trio gets ambushed by Dusknoir and his gang of Sableye. After defeating Dusknoir, they state that the Pokémon from the future will be erased, including the Hero. Despite it all, they continue and Dusknoir attacks the hero. Grovyle saves them just in time, sacrificing himself for the duo. Grovyle throws the Time Gears and tells them to go on, despite what will happen. Grovyle's not seen again until the events of Nintendo 3DS Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon.

Explorers of Sky: Special Episode 5

After Grovyle sacrificed himself to save the Hero and the Partner from Dusknoir, he awakens injured in the future with Dusknoir who woke up soon after. Grovyle declares that he'll fight Primal Diagla to buy time so the new agent can't stop the Hero and their partner from fixing Temporal Tower. Shortly after making it through Dark Wasteland, Grovyle meets up with Dusknoir again. While he suspected an ambush, he was prepared for it. Not knowing what the reason behind it was, Grovyle teamed up with Dusknoir to meet Primal Dialgia. Later they ambush a Sableye questioning why they attacked Dusknoir. Sableye explained that the new agent wanted to get rid of them both on Primal Diagla orders. Knowing this, Dusknoir and Grovyle head to the Temporal Tower, with Grovyle remembering that the Hero and their Partner are also climbing the tower. With Diagla nowhere to be seen, they head for Celebi, due to Diagla not having the time to recharge. As they're walking they get ambushed again by the Sableye. After beating the Sableye, Dusknoir grabs one asking for the location of Diagla, which they reveal is Frozen Island, which requires Porygon to reach.

After reaching Frozen Island, Grovyle gets attacked by Snorunt. After Grovyle completes the first dungeon, he's saved by Dusknoir while they're attacked by Glalie and Mamoswine. After their battle, they rest for a short while where Dusknoir acknowledges and respects Grovyle's leadership and determination. Dusknoir asks why Grovyle wants the future to be erased, to which Grovyle replies with "Everything ends eventually. Even if history is not changed... Even if the world of darkness continues in its current state... Eventually, the day will come when I won't be here anymore. Since that's the case, the timing of it doesn't matter. The important thing is not how long you live... It's what you accomplish with your life.

While I live, I want to shine. I want to prove that I exist. If I could do something really important... That would definitely carry on into the future. No... Not just into the future. In Hero's and Partner's future too... My spirit has become part of them, I believe. In them, my spirit is alive. And that spirit could be passed along to others. And so, if I were to disappear...I think all that I have accomplished will go on. That is... That would mean...that it's living, right?"

When they begin walking again, Grovyle notices that the pillars have lighting with a Snorunt being around, but before it could say where Celebi is, it runs away. After clearing the next dungeon Grovyle and Dusknoir notice Celebi asleep, with a Spiritomb there. Without realizing it was a trap for Grovyle set by Dusknoir from the start, Grovyle's soul starts melting while he still believes Dusknoir. Grovyle asks Dusknoir about his shining spirit and also asks him if he really wants to live in a dark world. Dusknoir saves Grovyle which infuriates Primal Diagla. Primal Diagla starts attacking Dusknoir, right before Diagla could make the ending below, an aurora appears.

Knowing they can't move, they rest and recover. While the planet starts moving, Grovyle notices that their time is almost up so they must hurry before Dialga destroys the time portal. When they reach Dialga, lights start to disappear and they try to stop Dialga before their time is up. After stopping Diagla, they slowly start to disappear one by one, first Diagla, and then Dusknoir. Before disappearing, Dusknoir asked if his spirit shined, to which Grovyle said yes before Dusknoir disappeared. Just before Celebi and Grovyle disappear, Celebi sees the morning sun for the first time. Suddenly they all wake up, still alive due to a higher beingInfo symbol.png. In his thoughts, Grovyle sends a message to the Hero and their Partner, asking if they're doing well.
