Team Pokémon (Japanese: ???) is a Rescue Team in the Pokémon World in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Series. It is formed by the Hero and Partner of the Rescue Team Scenario, later joined by multiple other Pokémon. It operates on the Air Continent and Water Continent.

History

Earliest Name

Team Pokémon (Japanese: ???) is the earlier official name for the team. It is the default in / Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team. Its Japanese equivalent follows the same format as the Japanese names of other Rescue Teams and Exploration Teams featured in the series, a single word in katakana (in this case, Pokémon) followed by an English-style pluralizing ズ ("zu") character, which can be rendered in English as an "s" or a "z" at the end of the word. Other examples of teams following this naming convention in Japanese include Team Go-Getters, Team Meanies, and Team Skull.

Random Names

Instead of a single name like the original game,  Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX proposes random names from a list. Many of the Japanese names use the word + ズ pattern, which is kept for one name in English, Excitementz. In English and Japanese, the original name still appears as one of the possible names; however, the name has been changed in other languages.

Unused Translations

The earliest Japanese name is found as unused content in  Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky and  Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX. In some instances, these unused appearances of the name have received different translations compared to the original. In Explorers of Sky, the English name is translated as "Pokémones", while in Rescue Team DX, it is kept as "Pokémon". In Explorers of Sky, the unused names in French and Italian are opposites of the name Team Poképals, using variations of the word "enemies" instead of pals.
