Counterpart Pokémon

Note that these are only hypothetical counterparts, and this isn't confirmed canon.

Beetles

Pinsir and Heracross are both Beetle Pokémon that are also capable of Mega Evolution.

Birds and Beasts

Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos may be counterparts to Suicune, Entei, and Raikou. Both sets of 3 Pokémon are tied to other Legendary Pokémon; that being Lugia and Ho-Oh respectively that may also be counterparts to each other. When all 3 Legendary Birds have been recruited in Game Boy Advance/Nintendo DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team, Lugia will awaken. Meanwhile, encountering Suicune, Entei, and Raikou is part of the quest to obtain the Rainbow Wing, which leads to an encounter with Ho-Oh. In Nintendo 3DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Lugia and Ho-Oh also return as a duo of legendary boss Pokémon.

Bovine

Tauros and Miltank may be counterparts to each other, as one is a Bull and the other is a Milking Cow, or Tauros may be an intended counterpart to Bouffalant.

Bugs

Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree may be counterparts to Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill. They're both 3-stage Bug Pokémon that made their debut appearance in the Rescue Team Titles. While Beautifly and Dustox did as well, they may be counterparts to each other, as they're part of a branching evolution from Wurmple. Silcoon and Cascoon also have near-identical designs.

Clamperl

Gorebyss and Huntail may be counterparts to each other, as much like Silcoon and Cascoon, they're branching evolutions from a single Pokémon, that being Clamperl.
