References

Information on the wiki requires sources, which are to be listed under References at the bottom of a page. A source can be:

  • Local - Directly originating from the MDFW, credited to a wiki editor or contributor who datamined the information.
  • External - An external document or platform where the info originated from or was published.

References should include:

  • Who documented the information.
  • The date on which the information was obtained.

In certain cases, such as technical game analysis and research, or datamining, the following should also be included, if applicable:

  • Which methods or tools were used to obtain the information.
  • The software and software version that was used to obtain the information.

Including links, names, dates, software, and software versions is important because it avoids confusion and helps with Cross-Referencing (see below).

References should be formatted as follows:

==References==
* <ref>Link Here</ref> Information used from the source.
* <ref>Link Here</ref> Information used from the source.
<references/>

We add asterisks to each reference so the page is more condensed when viewed in the source editor. The references tag is added below for references used in the article itself. Due to the nature of resources we use, such as Japanese wikis and strategy guides to obtain Japanese monster names, we can't apply them to every monster name on the page and thus the source is only listed at the bottom of the page.

Cross-References

It is possible for a piece of information to have multiple sources, both Local and External. In such situations, information on the MDFW needs to be Cross-Referenced, to make sure that the information in all sources is identical. If differences are found, the material is to be further investigated to determine which source is more accurate, and if a source is found to be inaccurate, it should be removed, disregarded and blacklisted going forward.

If multiple sources are accurate and include the same information, the earlier source, or the source that was used to make the page on the MDFW, should be mentioned at the bottom of the page as the Primary Reference, and additional, corroborating sources should also be mentioned alongside it as Cross-Referenced sources, while also mentioning which wiki editor or external contributor personally compared the two or more sources to make sure that they are accurate and feature the same information. Cross-Referencing is helpful because it ensures the information is accurate.
