Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki:Manual of Style (Editorializing)

MDFW - The Mystery Dungeon Tree of Information.

As MDFW articles are meant to include verified, sourced information, Editorializing is not allowed in regular article pages, and is instead reserved for User or Community pages. Editorializing includes the editor's opinion, opinions of others (such as fan communities or external commentators), quality assessments, fan ideas, unmarked speculation, theories, and words such as:

  • Curiously
  • Interestingly
  • Notably
  • Oddly
  • Simply
  • Strangely
  • Surprisingly

which are unnecessary and don't positively contribute to the article overall. Such words are also often followed by the word "enough" (for example, "interestingly enough"), which should also be avoided.

Avoid using the verb "suggest" to say what something means. The verb "suggest" can be used sparingly when appropriate, however if it is something the writer considers obvious, it doesn't need to be used, and readers can reach that conclusion on their own. Example:

Avoid: As the name suggests, they bear a large resemblance to Tengu.
Corrected: They resemble Tengu.

Avoid using the verb "suggest" to introduce conclusions and speculation. If it is a definitive conclusion, state it as such, and if it isn't, clarify further that it's speculation. Example:

Avoid: This town is marked as Floor 1, suggesting it came before the forest dungeon floors.
Corrected: This town is marked as Floor 1, which might mean it came before the forest dungeon floors.

Opinions by individual fans, larger fan communities, and external commentators such as reviewers big and small can still be featured on dedicated pages documenting community history and the perception of the Mystery Dungeon franchise worldwide across time.

This should further be extended to edit summaries. We generally prefer the edit to speak for itself, or the summary to be used to explain why a change was made. Personal remarks are unsavory and should be minimal or outright excluded entirely.
