Biography

Physical Appearance

Kokatsu's physical body is the Dune of Batsu, a desert with an underground cave of which the entrance looks like the head of a fox.

Spirit

Around Kokatsu's physical body, his spirit takes the appearance of a little boy with the tail of a fox, circular red eyes, and hair covering his forehead. Both the tail and the hair are white with red tips, and the hair also has additional red highlights. He wears white and red clothes with markings that represent sunshine, a collar made of yellow spheres around his neck, and yellow sandals with brownish dark red socks.

Battle Form

The Embodiment of Batsu, Kokatsu's Battle Form, a huge white fox surrounded by flames.

Kokatsu also has a battle form, the Embodiment of Batsu (Japanese: 魃の化身), in which he looks like a huge two-tailed white fox surrounded by flames and sand, with a collar made of yellow spheres with inscriptions around his neck. His battle form is depicted on a mural in the Underwater Training Ground.

Personality

Name Etymology

  • Kokatsu means drying up.[1] The word is formed with two kanji, however the spelling for the character's Japanese name replaces the first kanji with a different one that means fox.[2]
  • Batsu is the name of various drought-causing mythological beings.[3]

History

Shiren 6

Kokatsu noticed that his sister Tatsumi was making people sad by causing too much rain, so he decided to trap her in the sea. After that, he made the same mistake, by causing a drought for many years. The drought became a controversial topic on Serpentcoil Island and surrounding areas, and cults formed to worship Kokatsu and make offerings to him in the hope of convincing him to end the drought. One monk in particular, Kantenbo, leader of a controversial Kokatsu-worshiping cult, thinks that Serpentcoil Island would be destroyed if explored by foreign visitors in search of treasure, or in the event that Jakaku, a monster made by Kokatsu to keep Tatsumi's spirit trapped, were to be defeated. Shiren and Koppa defeat Jakaku and free Tatsumi, who asks them to "teach Kokatsu a lesson". However upon reaching him Koppa feels like there is more to the situation and tries asking for more information, to which Kokatsu responds negatively at first, leading Shiren to fight against the Embodiment of Batsu, Kokatsu's battle form. Upon hearing the full story, and learning that the two are siblings, they notice Tatsumi is making it rain heavily again. Kokatsu wants to tell her to stop, but doesn't feel confident enough, so he asks Shiren for help. The two fuse together, becoming Kokatsu Shiren, and fight the Embodiment of Suiryu, Tatsumi's battle form, together. Eventually the two siblings understand that if they want to bring happiness to people they must use their rain and sunlight powers together.

Family

Kokatsu is the younger brother of Tatsumi.
