Community:Shiren 1 DS Last Resort Strategy

MDFW - The Mystery Dungeon Tree of Information.
Jump to navigation Jump to search

When you're about to be defeated in the next few turns, this section provides some ideas for making one last stand. Better to die fighting than to press 'give up'. You'll lose all the Items in your inventory when Shiren dies, so nothing should be off limits to try to save yourself with.

Check your surroundings

  • Which monster is most likely to kill you? Check their average attack, and any abilities.
  • Are you facing an enemy of a certain type? See Fusion for details.

Healing Items

Herbs Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Herb.png

Some Herbs can let Shiren resist damage or being defeated for a while:

Jars Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Jar.png

  • Chiropractic Jar - As long as uses >0 can be pressed to heal to full HP.
  • Jar of Hiding - Will conceal Shiren for ~18-19 turns. When emerging, the situation may be worse than before.

Scrolls Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Scroll.png

  • Writing on a Blank Scroll doesn't consume a turn, and you will have any previously read Scrolls at your disposal.
  • Scroll of Need - Will heal Shiren's full HP, cure most Status Abnormalities and paralyze adjacent monsters.
  • Sanctuary Scroll - Place on the ground to protect you from adjacent attacks and abilities, but not ranged abilities.
  • Blastwave Scroll - Deals 21 - 37 damage to all monsters in the room.
  • Destruction Scroll if it has been unlocked - Read to defeat all monsters in the room.
  • Scroll of Removal - Throw it at a monster to remove all of its family. Still has a chance to miss when thrown though.
  • Scroll of Confusion - Confused all monsters in the room for 20 normal turns. Your best option when escaping to the stairs of a Monster House.
  • Scroll of Sleep - Puts all monsters in the room to Sleep for 14 normal turns, after which they will move at Double Speed. If you can make it to the stairs in under 13 turns, (6 if there are double speed monsters in the room), this is an option, otherwise do not risk it.

Staves Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Staff.png

Magic bolts from Staves travel indefinitely until they hit an entity or a wall. Thrown Staves will reach 10 squares and may miss when hitting an entity.

  • Bufu's Staff - Instantly defeat any enemy, and gain their Monster Meat.
  • Doppelganger Staff - Direct monster attention to another monster far away from Shiren for a few turns.
  • Staff of Sloth - Slowed a monster will give Shiren an extra turn to act directly after is successful. Double Speed monsters will be reduced to normal speed.
  • Staff of Paralysis - Paralyze the biggest threat to Shiren.
  • Staff of Postpone - Temporarily remove a monster from Shiren's vicinity. They will warp to the stairs.
  • Switching Staff - Switch places with a far away monster or one on top of the stairs.
  • Knockback Staff - Displace any physically strong monsters from Shiren by 10 squares.
  • Skull Staff - Any of the random effects produced can buy a few turns.

Are there Air Devil Family monsters Shiren 1 DS - Air Devil.png nearby? Hit them with magic bolts from Staves to inflict the effect on Shiren:

Monster Meat Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Meat.png

Are you holding any Meat that can save you, or transform the monsters?

  • Weak Monster Meat Shiren 1 DS - Mamel.png Shiren 1 DS - Chintala.png to throw at a dangerous enemy? Though this does have a chance to miss.
  • Air Devil Family Shiren 1 DS - Air Devil.png - Become Invisible to all monsters.
  • N'Duba Family Shiren 1 DS - N'Duba.png - Instantly conceal yourself in a jar for 19 turns and by using a special ability. The situation may be worse when emerging though.
  • Evil Soldier Family Shiren 1 DS - Evil Soldier.png and Spike Bomb Family Shiren 1 DS - Spike Bomb.png - Can take high or fatal damage then return Shiren to full HP.
  • Pickpocket Family Shiren 1 DS - Pickpocket.png and Thiefwalrus Family Shiren 1 DS - Thiefwalrus.png - Eat while facing a monster to warp away.
  • Fluffy Bunny Family Shiren 1 DS - Fluffy Bunny.png - Can heal 50 HP each turn, and on the turn transformed. Consider if this amount is sustainable.
  • Double speed movement or attack Shiren 1 DS - Death Reaper.png Shiren 1 DS - Baby Tank.png monster meat - Escaping or defeating enemies quickly.

Traps with 'Trap Master' status

Are you holding any Traps? Placing a trap does not consume a turn, and has the same effect as when thrown at a monster. (Floating-type monsters Shiren 1 DS - Dragon.pngShiren 1 DS - Flying Fowl.png are immune to grounded traps unless a Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Scroll.pngSuper Trap Scroll has been read in that floor.)

  • Pitfall Trap Shiren 1 DS - Pitfall Trap.png - Place underneath Shiren's feet and trigger it to move to another floor.

Instant death traps for monsters:

Miscellaneous Actions

  • Are RescuesDS an option? If so, it may be better to fall. Using precious items in an attempt to survive can be wasteful if you intend to continue the adventure.
  • If you are being attacked from a distance, your main Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Weapon.pngWeapon can be thrown to deal damage, though this may miss and if it hits, will disappear. Unsustainable and not recommended.
  • If you have a Shiren 1 DS Item Icon Shield.pngShield with a Shiren 1 DS - Shield Rune Prism.png (Prism) Rune equipped and there are Skull Mage Shiren 1 DS - Skull Mage.png in your line of sight, but about to die to other monsters, there's a small chance that the Skull Mage will attack first next turn, use it's magic, and if your shield is unequipped, may warp you out of the situation. Otherwise, un-equipping your shield guarantees you will die to the other monsters.
