Community:Shiren 1 DS Last Resort Strategy
When you're about to be defeated in the next few turns, this section provides some ideas for making one last stand. Better to die fighting than to press 'give up'. You'll lose all the Items in your inventory when Shiren dies, so nothing should be off limits to try to save yourself with.
Check your surroundings
- Which monster is most likely to kill you? Check their average attack, and any abilities.
- Are you facing an enemy of a certain type? See Fusion for details.
Check your Inventory
Healing Items
- Can any healing items buy you another turn? Check the attack of the Monsters around you, do they have abilities that will instantly defeat you?

Herbs

Some Herbs can let Shiren resist damage or being defeated for a while:
- Herb of Revival - Make sure this herbs is in your main inventory and not in a Jar to revive when killed.
- Dragon - Dealing ~75 fixed damage, can instantly defeat most monsters used in the direction of.

Jars

- Scroll of Need - Will heal Shiren's full HP, cure most Status Abnormalities and paralyze adjacent monsters.
- Sanctuary Scroll - Place on the ground to protect you from adjacent attacks and abilities, but not ranged abilities.

Monster Meat

Are you holding any Meat that can save you, or transform the monsters?
- Weak Monster Meat
to throw at a dangerous enemy? Though this does have a chance to miss. - Air Devil Family
- Become Invisible to all monsters. - N'Duba Family
- Instantly conceal yourself in a jar for 19 turns and by using a special ability. The situation may be worse when emerging though. - Evil Soldier Family
and Spike Bomb Family - Can take high or fatal damage then return Shiren to full HP. - Pickpocket Family
and Thiefwalrus Family - Eat while facing a monster to warp away. - Fluffy Bunny Family
- Can heal 50 HP each turn, and on the turn transformed. Consider if this amount is sustainable. - Double speed movement or attack
monster meat - Escaping or defeating enemies quickly.
Traps with 'Trap Master' status
Are you holding any Traps? Placing a trap does not consume a turn, and has the same effect as when thrown at a monster. (Floating-type monsters
- Pitfall Trap
- Place underneath Shiren's feet and trigger it to move to another floor.
Instant death traps for monsters:
- Pitfall Traps
- Rotten Trap
- Hunger Trap
- Rusty Traps
against Inferno Family Monsters
Miscellaneous Actions
- Are RescuesDS an option? If so, it may be better to fall. Using precious items in an attempt to survive can be wasteful if you intend to continue the adventure.
- If you are being attacked from a distance, your main
Weapon can be thrown to deal damage, though this may miss and if it hits, will disappear. Unsustainable and not recommended.
- Unidentified items might save you. In the Final Puzzle, eating Unidentified herbs are not recommended unless you've already found the Herb of Revival. May cause more trouble
- If you have a
Shield with a (Prism) Rune equipped and there are Skull Mage in your line of sight, but about to die to other monsters, there's a small chance that the Skull Mage will attack first next turn, use it's magic, and if your shield is unequipped, may warp you out of the situation. Otherwise, un-equipping your shield guarantees you will die to the other monsters.
Keeping Items after Defeat
- If you have empty spaces in your Warehouse in Canyon Hamlet, putting important items into a
Storehouse Jar will allow them to be saved to use on another adventure.
