The Tainted Insect (Japanese: 魔蝕虫) is a recurring boss monster present in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Super Famicom Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer in 1995, making it not only one of the Original Monsters, but the first ever Mystery Dungeon boss monster.

Related additional monsters include the Tainted Soldier, and the Tainted Queen that first appeared in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer in 2006, and two cameo appearances in the Danganronpa series, the first in 2017, under the name Monokumasect.

In Despair Dungeon: Monokuma's Test (Japanese: 絶望のダンジョン モノクマの試練, Dungeon of Despair: Monokuma's Trial), a Monokumasect appears as a monster. It is a fusion between Tainted Insect and Monokuma.[1]

In Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp (Japanese: ハッピーダンガンロンパS 超高校級の南国サイコロ合宿), Monokumasect returns in this game. It was first showcased in a pre-order trailer for Danganronpa Decadence.[2]
