The Fluffy Bunny (Japanese: いやしウサギ, Iyashi Usagi) Monster Family is a recurring group of two monsters present in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Super Famicom Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer in 1995, making it one of the Original Monster Families.

The Fluffy Bunny Family consists of:

  1. Fluffy Bunny (Japanese: いやしウサギ)
  2. Lifesaver Bunny(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: きゅうめいウサギ)

The Fluffy Bunny Family has made two cameo appearances in the Danganronpa series, the first in 2017, under the name Fluffy Monobunny.

Biography

The Fluffy Bunny Family is inspired by the Carbuncle, a legendary small animal from South American folklore that is said to have a mirror on its head that shines like burning coal. The word carbuncle is also used to refer to a red gem, similar to the gem on the head of a Fluffy Bunny.[1]

Name Etymology

Fluffy Bunny
  • Prototype: The early Japanese name, Carbuncle(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: カーバンクル) is a reference to its origin in South American folklore, as well as the red gem in its forehead. Traditionally, any red gemstones were referred to as Carbuncles.[2]
  • Japanese: Its Japanese name, Healer Rabbit(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: いやしウサギ, Iyashi Usagi) refers to its healing abilities and the fact that they're based on rabbits.
  • English: The name Fluffy Bunny is a combination of a cutesy name for a rabbit, and fluffy, which was likely chosen to tell players that this monster is mostly harmless.
