Draft:Shiren 1 DS:HP
HP (Japanese: ???) is a Stat in Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer. It passively replenishes as turns pass inside dungeon floors. HP is lost when receiving damage, so naturally having more HP allows Shiren to take more damage, which is crucial for survival.
HP is reset to 15/15 at the start of an adventure. Natural HP regeneration is calculated by dividing maximum HP by 150, so that with a maximum HP of 15, it would regenerate passively by 1 every 10 turns. If Shiren is targeted by a Fog Hermit monster's special attack, he will gain the No Natural Recovery Status Abnormality, which prevents natural HP regeneration for 50 turns. If Shiren is targeted by a Fog Hermit monster whilst he has the No Natural Recovery Status Condition, it will be replaced by the Hit Point Drain Status Condition, which prevents natural HP regeneration and also reduces HP by 1 for 50 turns. If Shiren has the Hungry Status Condition, natural HP regeneration will be prevented and HP will be reduced by 1 until his Fullness is increased. When equipping Recovery Armband, Berserk Armband and Revival Armband, natural HP regeneration will be set to 5 HP each turn. This means that if Shiren's maximum HP exceeds 750, his natural HP regeneration rate will be slowed. These Armbands do not allow natural HP regeneration when Shiren has the Hungry, No Natural Recovery or Hit Point Drain Status Conditions.
Decreasing HP
HP can be lost when receiving damage from characters; fixed damage from Firepuff monsters, for example, always reduces the same amount of HP, but variable damage from a Mamels attack will take Shiren's Defense value into account. If Shiren is inside a wall without wall passing abilities from Monster Meat of Pacorepkin or Level 3 and 4 Death Reaper monsters, he will lose 10 HP per turn. Kechi the Masseur may press the wrong pressure points when giving a massage, either before or after becoming a party member, which reduces your HP. Pekeji may mistakenly hit you as a party member before reaching his final Level. Traps such as Boulder Trap will deal varying amounts of damage that do not take Defense into account. Landmine Traps and Big Landmine Traps reduce HP to either 50% of current HP rounded up (except from when triggering at 1 HP), or to 1 hp; these effects can be halved by the Blast Rune, found innate in Blast Shields and Blast Xs. Scroll of Explosion, Spike Bomb monsters and Venting Jars have the same effect as Big Landmine Traps. Poison Herbs and Rotten Riceballs will deal 5 fixed damage to Shiren when used. The Invincible Status Condition from Herb of Victory will prevent HP loss from damage.
Leveling down (Bitter Herbs, Seed of Misfortune, Seed of Ill Luck, Twisty Hani monsters, Level 3 and 4 Skull Mages) reduces HP by 3~7, but cannot reduce it to 0. Seed of Ill luck reduces HP to 1. Egg Thing Noodles, Gaze Yakisoba or Roast Walrus from The Cliffs Restaurant will reduce HP to 1.
Low HP
If Shiren's HP reaches 30% or less of his maximum HP, he will gain the In Trouble Status Condition. If HP reaches 0, Shiren will collapse unless a Herb of Revival is in the inventory (that is not cursed or in a Jars), or Shiren is an Evil Soldier monster. Shiren will then be prompted to issue a rescue request or end the adventure.
Increasing HP
HP can be gained by using Medicinal Herbs or Restorative Herbs, which restore 25 and 100 HP respectively. If a bolt from a Staff of Recovery is reflected by an Air Devil monster, Shiren gains 50 HP. If Shiren consumes a Fluffy Bunny Monster Meat, he will restore 50 HP, and can repeatedly do so using special attacks. Chiropractic Jars will restore Shiren's HP to its maximum, as will Kechi the Masseur if his massage is successful. Scroll of Need will restore HP to its maximum. Inns will restore HP to its maximum at the cost of Gitan. Leveling up restores 3~7 HP. The Cliffs serves dishes that fully restore HP: Golden Roasted Fluffy Bunny, Boiled Ghost Radish, Sauteed Piggy, Spike Bomb Bowl, Grilled Egg Thing, Corpse Ice Cream and Roasted Mamel Tail. Reviving from Herb of Revival, Evil Soldier Monster Meat, or being rescued fully restores HP, as does possession using Dead Soldier Monster Meat.
Maximum HP
Decreasing Maximum HP
Leveling down (Bitter Herbs, Seed of Misfortune, Seed of Ill Luck, Twisty Hani monsters, Level 3 and 4 Skull Mages) reduces maximum HP by 3~7, but cannot reduce it to less than 15. Seeds of Ill luck reduce maximum HP to 15. Antidrain Armband, Barrier Armband, Clear Armband, Vigilant Armband and Warding Armband prevent leveling down and the effects of Seed of Ill Luck.
Increasing Maximum HP
Maximum HP is increased when using Medicinal Herbs or Restorative Herbs at maximum HP, increasing it by 1 and 2 respectively. Herb of Lifes increase maximum HP by 3, regardless of whether HP is at its maximum. Leveling up increases maximum HP by 3~7. A Medium Success in Bungee Jumping grants 10 maximum HP. The Cliffs serves dishes that increase maximum HP: Grilled Egg Thing increases it by 1, Boiled Ghost Radish, Sauteed Piggy, Spike Bomb Bowl, Corpse Ice Cream, Roasted Mamel Tail increases it by 3, and Golden Roasted Fluffy Bunny increases it by 10. The maximum HP is 999.
Effect On Other Entities
Effect On Monsters
Monster HP does not naturally regenerate. Should they Level up or down, their HP value will reset to the value of the monster's new Level, unless it is a Kigny or Inferno. Monsters that multiply, such as Thiefwalrus Levels 2~4, will produce monsters with full HP. If a monster is transformed by a Level 2 Skull Mage or Monster Meat, their HP will be reset. Monsters can restore HP from Medicinal Herbs, Herb of Life, Staff of Recovery or Restorative Herbs for 25, 50, 50 and 100 HP respectively, unless they are a Ghost-type monster, in which case they will lose HP instead. Fluffy Bunny monsters will restore 50 HP to monsters when using their special ability.
Effect On Characters
Characters, including Escorts and Allies not yet recruited, will not naturally regenerate HP. Allies and Escorts, when recruited, will passively regenerate HP using the same calculation as Shiren, dividing maximum HP by 150, when in dungeon floors. As such, those with higher maximum HP will passively regenerate at a faster rate. Allies and Escorts will not passively regenerate HP in town areas, and will retain their HP value from the last floor. Using Inns will reset the HP of Allies and Escorts. Allies and Escorts can restore HP from Medicinal Herbs, Herb of Life, Staff of Recovery or Restorative Herbs for 25, 50, 50 and 100 HP respectively, and if Shiren is transformed into a Fluffy Bunny, can restore their HP by 50 per special attack.
