The Field Bandit Monster Family (Japanese: 畠荒らし系, Hataarashi Kei) in Template:GameTitle consists of:
Field Bandit Family Monsters are stubby gnome-like creatures dressing in a simple tunic and undershirt. They wear face masks only exposing large ears and nose and drooping eyes, a well as this they wear a gnome hat identical to ones worn by Bowboy and Crossbowboy, and similarly styled boots. The color of the monster's hat, mask, and boots depends on its level and follows an almost identical pattern to the Mamel Family.
At level 4, the color scheme of Trove Bandits differs from that of levels 1 - 3. They now have orange skin instead of peach and have a golden tunic over salmon. This difference in coloration possibly warns players of the large jump in its stats from levels 3 to 4.
When attacking, Field Bandits jump up into the air, interlocking their stout hands together and bringing them down on their target.
Field Bandit Family Monsters do not initially target Shiren like other monsters. They are attracted to Items other than Weeds on the floor. They will move to stand on top of this item and use the next turn to transform it into Weeds.
When they have been provoked, by being attacked or when Shiren or a party member stands within 1 square of them, they will no longer be interested in changing items into Weeds, even items they pass over while pursuing Shiren. If Shiren goes out of sight, the monster will wander the floor, and no longer change items.
When Sealed, Field Bandits are no longer interested in floor items, and will not turn them into weeds. They can no longer throw weeds or use weed curses on Shiren's items.
Compared to other monsters of their level, Field Bandits don't have such high attack or defense, though there is a jump at level 4. It is their abilities however, that cause trouble to players.
Field bandits that have not been provoked can be lured away so that Shiren can escape by throwing a disposable item near them, but not at them. They will be attracted to the item, and will move to turn it into Weeds.
If these monsters cannot be defeated in one turn, disable their ability by any means before attempting to melee them.
From a distance, only Jar Bandits (Level 2) can be dangerous, but Field Bandits, Item Bandits and Trove Bandits will only be throwing Weeds at Shiren, so ranged attacks can decrease the number of turns spend fighting them at close range, giving them less opportunities to use their abilities. At low levels, even using a Knockback Staff a 4 - 6 times can keep them away and deal 5 damage with each use.
Monster Houses containing Field Bandit Family Monsters will quickly transform all contained items into Weeds after they have been awakened, there are some ways to prevent this. Sealing away the entire Field Bandit Family by throwing a Scroll of Removal is the most effective option.
However, in some situations where it is difficult even survive inside a Monster House, it may be a better idea to forget about the items and prioritize survival instead.
As a Field Bandit Family Monster, Shiren gains two qualities, first is the ability to throw an infinite amount of Weeds that will fall to the ground. The second is more dangerous; all items that Monster-Shiren walks over will turn into Weeds.
When Shiren's current Fullness is low, become a Field Bandit to throw Weeds all over the ground, then revert to pick them up and eat them. Each Weeds eaten replenishes 5 current fullness with no other effects. Weeds can be thrown into Shops to earn a small amount of Gitan for each.
Be extremely careful in Shops as a Field Bandit. All items walked over, including shop merchandise, will become Weeds, and the Shopkeeper will expect you to pay for them.
