Unidentified Items (Japanese: ???) is a game mechanic in Template:GameTitle. Some items have generic names (in yellow) and no description when found. The player doesn't know what those items do right away, and there are two ways to figure it out: using an Identify Scroll on them, or trying them to see what they do. Players who figure out what an unidentified item does can give it a name from the menu.
Weapons and Shields
Their proper name is known, however it's unknown if their Attack/Defense is changed. It's also unknown if they're cursed, in which case the player would need an Uncurse Scroll to be able to unequip them.
Rings
Generic name. It's also unknown if they're cursed, in which case the player would need an Uncurse Scroll to be able to unequip them.
Staves
Generic name. Amount of uses left is unknown.
Herbs
Generic name. They get identified automatically when eaten. Only unidentified in the Bonus Dungeon.
Scrolls
Generic name. They get identified automatically when read. Only unidentified in the Bonus Dungeon.
The Chance Scroll will instead appear as a blank name in the inventory and cannot be read in this state. Consuming an Eyedrop Herb or equipping the Vision Ring
will reveal it.
