Gameplay Mechanics

The player's goal is to obtain money by exploring the Magic Dungeon. The collected gold is taken by Nene and put in the bank, and once certain amounts of money are reached, the shop is expanded. When the player is defeated inside the dungeon, the amount of collected money is halved, unless a Safe(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. is in the inventory. On a successful run, either by completing the dungeon or escaping with an Outside Scroll(UT) - This is an unofficial translation., all the Gold and items are kept. Nene sells the items, turning them into Gold in the bank after the next Adventure.

When the fifth stage is reached, the player can use the Vault(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. to store and retrieve items(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. by talking with Nene. After a successful Adventure, Nene will propose to store items in the Vault. Items that aren't stored will be sold. The player can access the contents of the Vault from the menu, and can take items in and out by talking with Nene. The amount of items that can be stored increases as the shop expands, as does the amount of items that can be taken out before each Adventure.

The player can check the amount of money currently in the bank and the amount of money still needed for the next expansion by reading the note left by Nene on the bed.

Obtaining the Box of Happiness(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. from the Mysterious Dungeon immediately expands the shop to the ninth stage, skipping any event and dialogue in between.[1]

Obtaining the Mystery Box(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. from the More Magic Dungeon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. unlocks the tenth and last stage of the shop.

The player can open doors with the A button while standing in front of them.

As real-time, grid-based, four-directional movement is used outside of dungeons, characters other than Torneko move on their own. In the first two stages of the shop, the player can stand at the counter, next to Nene, as visitors come and leave. By pressing A, the player can talk to shop visitors. Visitors and their dialogue change as the shop is expanded.
