This Rice Changer Family page is about the Nintendo DS release. For the Super Famicom release, see Shiren 1 SFC:Rice Changer Family.
For the lore page, see Shiren:Rice Baby Family.

The Rice Baby (Japanese: 妖怪にぎり見習い) Monster Family in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer consists of:

  1. Rice Baby (Japanese: 妖怪にぎり見習い)
  2. Rice Changer (Japanese: 妖怪にぎり変化)
  3. Rice Boss (Japanese: 妖怪にぎり親方)
  4. Rice Master (Japanese: 妖怪にぎり元締)

Special Drops

Rice Changers have a chance to drop a Riceball upon defeat. Rice Bosses have a chance to drop a Big Riceball upon defeat. Rice Masters have a chance to drop a Giant Riceball upon defeat. This item will not be dropped if the monster has previously had Gitan or an Item stolen from them by a Thief-type monster[Citation needed].

Monster Ability

If a Rice Baby family monster trips on a Riceball Trap, it will level up.

  • Level 1: No special ability.
  • Levels 2 and 4: Can use its "rice breath" to turn one of Shiren's items in the inventory into a Big Riceball. If a jar is turned into a Big Riceball, its contents are lost.
  • Levels 3 and 4: Can use its "rice breath" to turn Shiren into a Riceball (status).

Effect when Sealed

When Sealed, Rice Baby family monsters can no longer turn Shiren's items into Big Riceballs, or turn Shiren into a riceball. They will instead always attack.

Combat Strategy

All riceballs will deal 100 damage if successfully thrown, which can defeat any level monster in one hit.

Meat Strategy

Monster Meat Description

  1. Rice Baby Meat: Eat this to change into a Rice Baby.
  2. Rice Changer Meat: Eat this to change into a Rice Changer. Enemies will be more likely to drop a Riceball when defeated.
  3. Rice Boss Meat: Eat this to change into a Rice Boss. Enemies will be more likely to drop a Big Riceball when defeated.
  4. Rice Master Meat: Eat this to change into a Rice Master. Enemies will be more likely to drop a Giant Riceball when defeated.
