'''Dungeons''' {{JA|ダンジョン||}} are a type of {{RescueTeam|Location}} in {{RescueTeamTitle}}. Gameplay in dungeons works differently than in the overworld. Dungeon gameplay is turn-based, operating on a grid of tiles.

==Tiles==
{{RescueTeam|Pokémon}} traverse dungeons one tile at a time. Default Floor tiles:

* Can be walked over safely.
* Items can be placed or retrieved.
<!--* Traps or Special Tiles can be placed or created on top of them.-->

===Special Tiles===
Special tiles all have special properties such as {{RescueTeam|Carpet}} used to denote {{RescueTeam|Kecleon Shop}}s, or {{RescueTeam|Wonder Tile}}s which reset {{RescueTeam|Stat}}s.

* ''Some'' can be walked over safely.
* ''Some'' allow items to be placed or retrieved.
** Others will delete or change items or prevent their effects from being used.
<!--
* Traps and other special tiles can't be created on top of them.
* They can be moved or destroyed like traps.
-->

===Traps===
{{RescueTeam|Trap}}s are tiles that usually have a negative or dangerous effect. They may destroy or modify items when activated, harm the {{RescueTeamC|Hero}} or {{RescueTeam|Team Member}}s or apply {{RescueTeam|Status Condition}}s. Only the Hero and Team Members are capable of setting off traps.

==Turns==
Standard gameplay has the player traversing through dungeon floors, dealing with foes as they appear gathering items to aid in survival, and making it to the next floor. Most Pokémon are only capable of moving, attacking, using an item, or other actions one at a time. However, there are some methods to increase {{RescueTeam|Movement Speed}} and attack speed, such as {{RescueTeam|Agility}}.

==Foes==
With only a few exceptions, every floor of every dungeon is filled with hostile Pokémon known as foes. Most Pokémon are standard-issue foes, though there are a number that also appear as {{RescueTeam|Boss}}es, or special enemies, such as {{RescueTeamB|Jirachi}}, a boss, {{RescueTeam|Mew (Buried Relic)|Mew}}, a special enemy or {{RescueTeamB|Team Meanies}}, a hostile Rescue Team that's treated as a boss fight in {{RescueTeam|Sinister Woods}}.

==Floors==
Each dungeon is organized into 3 - 99 floors, each floor containing a set of {{RescueTeam|Stairs}}, a {{RescueTeam|Warp Zone}}, or an exit of some sort.

===Visibility===

Visibility changes in some dungeons, and sometimes, floor by floor. While in some story dungeons, the player may be able to see Pokémon in a hallway, other times they may be limited to only the current room, or a small bubble around themselves, depending on the light level of the dungeon. Some items, such as the Luminous Orb can change the {{RescueTeam|Floor's status}} to {{RescueTeam|Luminous}}, or the {{RescueTeam|X-Ray Specs}} can allow the leader to see the entire floor's items and foes. Some {{RescueTeam|Status Condition}}s may also impact the user's visibility, such as the {{RescueTeam|Blinker}} status.

Another factor that may vary by floor, as well as affect visibility is weather. Standard weather is clear, and may change to the following, based on pre-set floor requisites, or moves such as {{RescueTeam|Hail}} or {{RescueTeam|Sandstorm}}.

* '''{{RescueTeam|Clear}}''': Default weather condition. So long as there is a {{RescueTeam|Pokémon}} on the floor whose special ability is {{RescueTeam|Cloud Nine}} or {{RescueTeam|Air Lock}}, the weather is always clear and cannot be changed.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Cloudy}}''': Damage coming from non-{{RescueTeam|Normal-type}} moves is decreased.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Hail (Weather)|Hail}}''': Triggered by the move {{RescueTeam|Hail}} or a {{RescueTeam|Hail Orb}}. Pokémon who are not {{RescueTeam|Ice-type}} take 5 HP damage every 10 turns. {{RescueTeam|Castform}} turns into an Ice-type Pokémon.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Fog}}''': {{RescueTeam|Electric-type}} moves are weakened significantly. Castform turns into a {{RescueTeam|Water-type}} Pokémon.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Rain}}''': Triggered by the {{RescueTeam|Rain Dance}}, {{RescueTeam|Drizzle}} (special ability), or a {{RescueTeam|Rainy Orb}}. It strengthens Water-type moves and weakens Fire-type moves.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Sandstorm (Weather)|Sandstorm}}''': Triggered by the move {{RescueTeam|Sandstorm}}, {{RescueTeam|Sand Stream}} (special ability), or a {{RescueTeam|Sandy Orb}}. Pokémon who are not {{RescueTeam|Rock-type}}, {{RescueTeam|Steel-type}}, or {{RescueTeam|Ground-type}} take 5 {{RescueTeam|HP}} damage every 10 {{RescueTeam|Turn}}s.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Snow}}''': The {{RescueTeam|Movement Speed}} of Ice-type Pokémon is increased by one. {{RescueTeam|Castform}} turns into an Ice-type Pokémon.
* '''{{RescueTeam|Sunny}}''': Triggered by the move {{RescueTeam|Sunny Day}}, {{RescueTeam|Drought}} (special ability), or a {{RescueTeam|Sunny Orb}}. It strengthens {{RescueTeam|Fire-type}} moves and weakens Water-type moves.

==Rooms==
Without walls, every dungeon would be a Great Hall,a dungeon without walls. Dungeons are usually separated into smaller Room, bordered on all sides by different types of walls or tiles, such as water or magma. Walls can be removed with a {{RescueTeam|Wonder Orb}} called the {{RescueTeam|One-Room Orb}}, the move {{RescueTeam|Rock Smash}}, or the aforementioned skill Super Mobile. Water can be removed with a {{RescueTeam|Drought Orb}}. If the player-controlled Pokémon uses the {{RescueTeam|Mobile Scarf}} or a Pokémon capable of moving through walls, such as {{RescueTeam|Gastly}}, their {{RescueTeam|Belly}} will decrease faster.

This Dungeon page is about the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS release. For the Nintendo Switch release, see Rescue Team DX:Dungeon.
For the lore page, see Pkmn:Dungeon.

Dungeons (Japanese: ダンジョン) are a type of Location in Game Boy Advance/Nintendo DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team. Gameplay in dungeons works differently than in the overworld. Dungeon gameplay is turn-based, operating on a grid of tiles.

Tiles

Pokémon traverse dungeons one tile at a time. Default Floor tiles:

  • Can be walked over safely.
  • Items can be placed or retrieved.

Special Tiles

Special tiles all have special properties such as Carpet used to denote Kecleon Shops, or Wonder Tiles which reset Stats.

  • Some can be walked over safely.
  • Some allow items to be placed or retrieved.
    • Others will delete or change items or prevent their effects from being used.

Traps

Traps are tiles that usually have a negative or dangerous effect. They may destroy or modify items when activated, harm the Hero or Team Members or apply Status Conditions. Only the Hero and Team Members are capable of setting off traps.

Turns

Standard gameplay has the player traversing through dungeon floors, dealing with foes as they appear gathering items to aid in survival, and making it to the next floor. Most Pokémon are only capable of moving, attacking, using an item, or other actions one at a time. However, there are some methods to increase Movement Speed and attack speed, such as Agility.

Foes

With only a few exceptions, every floor of every dungeon is filled with hostile Pokémon known as foes. Most Pokémon are standard-issue foes, though there are a number that also appear as Bosses, or special enemies, such as Jirachi, a boss, Mew, a special enemy or Team Meanies, a hostile Rescue Team that's treated as a boss fight in Sinister Woods.

Floors

Each dungeon is organized into 3 - 99 floors, each floor containing a set of Stairs, a Warp Zone, or an exit of some sort.

Visibility

For additional reading, see Rescue Team:Floor's status.

Visibility changes in some dungeons, and sometimes, floor by floor. While in some story dungeons, the player may be able to see Pokémon in a hallway, other times they may be limited to only the current room, or a small bubble around themselves, depending on the light level of the dungeon. Some items, such as the Luminous Orb can change the Floor's status to Luminous, or the X-Ray Specs can allow the leader to see the entire floor's items and foes. Some Status Conditions may also impact the user's visibility, such as the Blinker status.

Weather

For additional reading, see Rescue Team:Weather.

Another factor that may vary by floor, as well as affect visibility is weather. Standard weather is clear, and may change to the following, based on pre-set floor requisites, or moves such as Hail or Sandstorm.

Rooms

Without walls, every dungeon would be a Great Hall,a dungeon without walls. Dungeons are usually separated into smaller Room, bordered on all sides by different types of walls or tiles, such as water or magma. Walls can be removed with a Wonder Orb called the One-Room Orb, the move Rock Smash, or the aforementioned skill Super Mobile. Water can be removed with a Drought Orb. If the player-controlled Pokémon uses the Mobile Scarf or a Pokémon capable of moving through walls, such as Gastly, their Belly will decrease faster.

Terrain

Dungeon floors and walls are comprised of different types of terrain. The different terrain determines the Type and power of the move Hidden Power and Camouflage changes the user's type based on the terrain.

Some tiles can only be traversed if the Pokémon has the Super Mobile or All-Terrain Hiker IQ, or a specific Movement Type. The different movement types allow the Pokémon to walk across or through;
