The Ashigarudon(UT) - This is an unofficial translation. (Japanese: 足軽どん) Monster Family is a recurring group of four monsters in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Nintendo 64 Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 2 - Shiren's Castle and the Oni Invasion in 2000, making it one of the Third Batch of Monster Families.

Shiren 2

Shiren 2 was the first game to feature this monster family, it contained 4 levels.

  • Normal: Ashigarudon (Lv. 1) → Samuraidon (Lv. 2) → Taishodon (Lv. 3) → Tonosamadon (Lv. 4)


  • Ashigarudon - Ability: None
  • Samuraidon - Ability: Return some damage incurred by attacks.
  • Taishodon - Ability: Return projectiles.
  • Tonosamadon - Ability: Return magic.
Magic Castle GBC

The family was later featured in Magic Castle, which was released directly after Shiren 2. Monster families in Magic Castle GBC typically contained only 3 levels, as was the standard at the time, even in Shiren 2, as most monsters only had 3 levels max. Ashigarudon was cut, possibly due to its lack of of an ability, leaving the monster family:

Magic Castle DS

Starting in Shiren 1 DS, monster families typically having 4 levels became the standard. In Magic Castle DS, a new level 4 monster was created, that added the abilities of the 3 previous levels, cutting Ashigarudon out entirely.
