Dungeons (Japanese: ダンジョン) are a type of Location in Template:GameTitle. Gameplay in dungeons works differently than in the overworld. Dungeon gameplay is turn-based, operating on a grid of tiles.

Tiles

There are different types of tiles, aside from the standard ground tiles; such as Carpet used to denote Shops, Wonder Tiles which reset Stats, or Traps. Pokémon traverse dungeons one tile at a time, and only the Hero or Team Mebers are capable of setting off traps.

Special Tiles

Some tiles can only be traversed if the Pokémon has the Super Mobile or All-Terrain Hiker IQ Skills, or a specific Movement Type. The different movement types allow the Pokémon to walk across or through;

Turns

Standard gameplay has the player traversing through dungeon floors, dealing with foes as they appear gathering items to aid in survival, and making it to the next floor. Most Pokémon are only capable of moving, attacking, using an item, or other actions one at a time. However, there are some methods to increase Movement Speed and attack speed, such as Agility.

Foes

With only a few exceptions, every floor of every dungeon is filled with hostile Pokémon known as foes. Most Pokémon are standard-issue foes, though there are a number that also appear as Bosses, or special enemies, such as Jirachi, a boss, Mew, a special enemy or Team Meanies, a hostile Rescue Team that's treated as a boss fight in Sinister Woods.

Floors

Each dungeon is organized into 3 - 99 floors, each floor containing a set of Stairs, a Warp Zone, or an exit of some sort.

Visibility

For additional reading, see Rescue Team:Floor's status.

Visibility changes in some dungeons, and sometimes, floor by floor. While in some story dungeons, the player may be able to see Pokémon in a hallway, other times they may be limited to only the current room, or a small bubble around themselves, depending on the light level of the dungeon. Some items, such as the Luminous Orb can change the Floor's status to Luminous, or the X-Ray Specs can allow the leader to see the entire floor's items and foes. Some status conditions may also impact the user's visibility, such as the Blinker status.

Weather

For additional reading, see Rescue Team:Weather.

Another factor that may vary by floor, as well as affect visibility is weather. Standard weather is clear, and may change to the following, based on pre-set floor requisites, or moves such as Hail or Sandstorm.

Rooms

Without walls, every dungeon would be a Great Hall,a dungeon without walls. Dungeons are usually separated into smaller Room, bordered on all sides by different types of walls or tiles, such as water or magma. Walls can be removed with a Wonder Orb called the One-Room Orb, the move Rock Smash, or the aforementioned skill Super Mobile. Water can be removed with a Drought Orb.

Terrain

Dungeon floors and walls are comprised of different types of terrain. The different terrain determines the Type and power of the move Hidden Power and Camouflage changes the user's type based on the terrain.
