Shields (Japanese: ???) are a type of Item that appear in 
Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon
. Shields can be equipped by Torneko to increase his Defense Power. As Torneko goes deeper in the dungeons, more dangerous Monsters with increasing Attack Power are encountered. The best way to counter the increasing Damage and preserve Torneko's HP is to equip him with Shields.
All Shields have a default Shield strength tied to their type that can be reduced or increased through various means. The modifier to this default value is shown next to the shield name as +[Value] or -[Value]. The resulting value of the default Shield Strength +/- [Value] is the Shield Strength of the Shield, with the exception that if Shield Strength - [Value] is lower than 0 then the resulting Shield Strength is 0.
Shield Strength modifiers have a maximum value of +99 and minimum value of -30.
Shield Strength modifiers can be increased by 1 by reading a Bikill Scroll with the shield equipped or by 3 by reading a Chance Scroll and getting the right effect with the shield equipped. It can be decreased by 1 when Rusting from Hork's Special Abilities or Acid Traps activations.
Curses
Shields can be found in a Cursed state. Once equipped, they cannot be unequipped from Torneko.
