Monster Houses (Japanese: モンスターハウス) are a Dungeon gameplay element in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 5 - The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate. A monster house is a Room full of Items, sleeping Monsters, and hidden Traps. Monster Houses can be dangerous, especially if the Shi-Ranger stumbles into one accidentally; however, they can also be a source of valuable loot and Experience points.

Monster Houses can be encountered in three ways. The first is the standard room full of sleeping monsters, and the second is Pop-up Monster Houses, where they're activated when the Shi-Ranger steps on a specific Tile in the room. The third method is to read a Mnstr House Scrl (Monster House Scroll) (Japanese: 魔物部屋の巻物). However, doing so on a Floor where a monster house already exists will display a message stating that one already exists, which will cause the next floor to be a Great Hall Monster House.[1]

While monster houses normally spawn monsters from the floor the Shi-Ranger is on, a subset of monster houses exists called "Special Monster Houses", which are full of monsters of a specific Monster-type (Japanese: モンスター系). These may have monsters ranging from levels 1 - 4, regardless of the levels of the monsters that normally spawn on that floor.

Adventure Footprint entry #31 requires Shiren to be thrown into a monster house.
