Monsters (Japanese: モンスター) are hostile creatures found in Dungeons in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 5 - The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate. While not all monsters in the game may be hostile, and they may rarely be found outside of dungeons, as a general rule of thumb, they're all hostile combatants.

Adventure Footprint entry #8 tracks the monster monsters defeated on a single Dungeon Floor.

Monster Family

Monsters are organized into Monster Families (Japanese: モンスター系). A monster family may range from a single monster to four monsters. When a monster is Leveled up, it will progress from its current level to the next, changing its color palette and, in some cases, special abilities. Fully leveled-up monsters can be "over-leveled" to 99, but they will not change their physical appearance or abilities beyond their initial level 4 version.

Special Abilities

Special Abilities can be sorted into two distinct categories. Inherent and Type-based.

The Aquatic-type (Japanese: 水棲系) Bored Kappa Family (Japanese: ひまガッパ系) may recover HP in water, which is part of its type-based ability, while its special ability is to throw Items at its enemies, which is usually Shiren and his Adventure Allies.

The Floating-type (Japanese: 浮遊系) Gyadon Family (Japanese: ギャドン系) is capable of floating over Void Tiles as part of its type-based ability, while its special ability is to pluck items from Shiren's Inventory.
