Defeat (Japanese: ???) is a Dungeon gameplay element Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 5 - The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate. Defeat works differently, depending on who is defeated, who defeated them, and how.

Shiren

Defeat for Shiren usually follows him reaching 0 HP through the usual methods of:

There are various other methods by which Shiren may be defeated in unusual ways. For example, Shiren stepping on a Rust Trap (Japanese: サビのワナ) while in the Onigiri (Japanese: おにぎり) Status Abnormality will cause him to be defeated instantly. If a Monster defeats Shiren, it will not Level up to the next monster in their respective Monster Family.

Defeat for Shiren will cause him to be thrown out of the dungeon by 6 Mamel Family (Japanese: マムル系) monsters, where he'll be back at Level 1 with none of his Items or Gitan (Japanese: ギタン) remaining.

Adventure Allies

Adventure Allies may be defeated by any number of methods that reduce their HP to 0. Jirokichi can be revived by throwing a ??? at him to revive him after he's been defeated, however, the rest will disappear for the remainder of the Adventure.

If a monster defeats an adventure ally, they will level up to the next monster in their respective Monster Family, or Over-Level if they're already at the highest level.

Monsters

Monsters are considered defeated when they lose all of their HP. When a monster is defeated, it no longer exists. They can't be revived, and any new monsters of the same family that are generated will be an entirely new monster. Other methods to defeat them also exist, such as Shiren switching places with them while standing on a Sanctuary Scroll (Japanese: 聖域の巻物), or turning them into an Onigiri while a Trap Master, and using the same methods to defeat them that would defeat Shiren.

If a monster defeats another monster, they will level up to their next level, or over-level if they're already at the highest level.
