The Baby Tank (Japanese: コドモ戦車) Monster Family in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer consists of:

  1. Baby Tank (Japanese: コドモ戦車, Kodomo Sensha)
  2. Mini Tank (Japanese: ちびタンク, Chibi Tanku)

Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks appear as Crossbowboys and Bowboys respectively, though now seated inside a simple wooden tank with a single grey arrow at the head. Now when attacking, an arrow is fired with almost no recoil effect on the monster itself.

Monster Behaviour

Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks use their Double Speed to stay as far from Shiren as possible while using their second turn to fire an arrow.

If Shiren is further than 10 squares away from the Baby Tank, they will not attempt to shoot or move closer, but once Shiren moves into range, they will fire an arrow.

Monster Ability

Both Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks move at Double Speed, they do not attack at double speed, and cannot attack twice in a turn where they have not moved once.

  • Baby Tank: Primarily attacks by shooting Iron Arrow, which can miss and will fall to the floor.
  • Mini Tank: Primarily attacks by shooting Silver Arrow, which travel through all surfaces and will always fly away.

Effect when Sealed

Levels:1 - 2 Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks will no longer move at double speed and will approach Shiren as other monsters do to melee attack.

Special Drops

  • Baby Tanks may drop Iron Arrow

Combat Strategy

  • Levels 1 - 2: Move diagonally, avoiding the monster's line of sight will prevent them from attacking until Shiren is next to them.
  • Levels 1 - 2: Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks will move away from Shiren when possible, but having Shiren in their view is a priority. When fleeing out of a room, they will consume both of their turns, moving out, and back into the room, where they can still be seen by Shiren. Otherwise, in large rooms use ranged attacks to defeat them, or attempt to corner the monster.

Trap Strategy

Rusty Traps will only halve the defense of Baby Tanks and Mini Tanks, but it will also decrease their speed by one level, from Double Speed:Single Attack, to Normal speed.

Meat Strategy

  • Levels 1: Repeatedly fire Iron Arrow so these can be collected and used as Shiren after changing back.
  • Levels 1 - 2: Shoot Arrows into hallways to ensure they are safe, or continue firing to defeat Monsters that the arrows hit.
  • Levels 1 - 1: Escape from enemies or fight more efficiently by moving at Double Speed.
  • Level 2: Attack multiple enemies at once with piercing Silver Arrow, particularly in Monster Houses. Shoot in random directions to detect clusters of entities.

Monster Meat Description

  1. Baby Tank meat: Eat this to change into a Baby Tank! you'll move at double speed and fire Iron Arrow.
  2. Mini Tank meat: Eat this to change into a Mini Tank! you'll move at double speed and fire Silver Arrow.
