Munchlax (Japanese: ゴンベ) is a Post-credits, event-only character in
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team. Munchlax has a 1/256 chance of appearing in Pokémon Square after the game's credits have rolled.[1] Munchlax will either ask for help picking up Apples or ask for something to eat. The reaction the player gets varies depending on the event they encounter and the choices selected. Munchlax cannot appear if Spinda is in town. Munchlax can't be recruited or encountered in a dungeon.
Event
Munchlax has a chance of appearing every time a dungeon is left and Pokémon Square is entered, including clearing or failing Dojo Mazes in the Makuhita Dojo. When Munchlax appears, it walks from the eastern side to the western side and leaves. There are two versions of the event, with a 50% chance for either. Encountering Munchlax is an Adventure Log entry, titled "Spotted Munchlax". Regardless of which event is encountered, the player will receive a Munch Belt if his request is completed.

Munchlax's stomach growls, and the player needs to give him one of the following food items. If the player doesn't have any, Munchlax will appear disappointed.
Munchlax can accept and eat many edible items rather than just Apples,[2] including:
Dropped Apples version
Munchlax drops his apples, and the player needs to grab them for it. If the player refuses to give its apples back, it walks away in the opposite direction, and the three apples will stay in the player's inventory. If the player talks to it after this, it will refer to them as a meanie and head back to the east side of the square, towards the Pelipper Post Office.

RNG Manipulation
On August 11, 2024, the Pokémon reverse engineering group pret discovered how to manipulate the RNG to guarantee the hunger version of the event.[3][4][5]
Note: You must be in post-credits for Munchlax to spawn.
- Complete (or fail/escape) a dungeon, save, and reset the game. Do not enter Pokémon Square after completing the dungeon.
- Enter a friend area that contains a single Pokémon.
- For a spacious friend area like Groudon's Volcanic Pit, wait 1m 15s and then leave. Some more cramped friend areas, like Deoxys's Enclosed Island, cause the Pokémon to turn around more often because it collides into walls, which shortens the time you have to wait. For Deoxys, the target waiting time is 1m 10s.
- You'll know you're close to the correct time when the Pokémon moves left twice, up, down-right, and down-left. If the Pokémon moves up-left after moving down-left, you waited too long, and will need to reset the game and try again.
- Enter Pokémon Square and see if Munchlax spawns.
- If Munchlax does not spawn, enter a dungeon and complete it or give up, then check for Munchlax again the following day. Depending on how early you left the friend area, you may need to repeat this step a few times. Do not reset the game during this process, or you'll need to start over from step 1.
- When Munchlax spawns, it will always be the event variant where Munchlax's stomach growls, so be prepared to give Munchlax a food item if you want that Munch Belt.
