Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness is the second main video game in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series. It was initially released in two versions with slight differences, Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. A third version with additional content was later released as
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
The story involves a human turning into a Pokémon, and waking up on a beach without their memory. They team up with a local they meet to retrieve a treasure of theirs from a duo of thieves. Afterwards, they attend a guild for Exploration Teams, hoping to not only become first-rate and graduate, but also to uncover the mystery of the hero's missing memory. Later on, they get involved in a crisis involving the collapse of time itself, leading to them saving the world.
The gameplay is turn based, with the emphasis being on the titular Mystery Dungeons. The hero and their partner traverse deeper into dungeons, whether it's to fufill rescue missions for the guild they joined or to progress the story. The amount of floors the player must traverse gradually become bigger and bigger, with the post-credits providing incredibly challenging 'level reset' dungeons to test their skills. Outside of them, the main area is free roaming and filled with characters to interact with.
Despite their natures as two games with exclsuive items, the games otherwise are left untouched in every other department.
Both versions were released on the Nintendo DS.
