Evolution (Japanese: しんか) is a Pokémon transformation that changes a Pokémon's species in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. It made its debut in Game Boy Advance/Nintendo DS Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red and Blue Rescue Team in 2005. When a Pokémon evolves, its appearance changes. Types, Moves, Abilities, as well as other characteristics, may also change.

Devolution

While typically thought of as a permanent transformation, there are rare instances in which a Pokémon may be able to devolve back to a previous form. Pokémon wearing a Harmony Scarf can temporarily evolve to their last stage when near the Tree of Life. Pokémon always evolve and devolve into species that belong to the same family.

Locations

In some instances, evolution only or primarily appears to be possible at specific locations:

Requirements

Requirements for evolution often vary. Some Pokémon are capable of evolution upon reaching a certain level, or require a certain item or 2. In some instances, Pokémon need to find themselves at specific locations to evolve, while in others, Pokémon are simply able to evolve in dungeons.

World-threatening events may prevent Pokémon from evolving.
