  • Melding Jars (x2)
  • Extraction Scroll

Introduction

I did not intend this dive to be useful for loot. I posted this as a legitimate rescue request on gamefaqs.com as this was easily my best dive to date and I didn't want to lose it. After a few days, I decided I was kidding myself that anyone would rescue me so deep in FFP and gave up waiting to be rescued.

It seems too deep to be useful as an abuse-able password run, but another wanderer saw my rescue request and asked me to post my notes. OTOH, the Identity Armband is extremely rare and valuable, and hardcore players might not mind diving 50+ floors to get one. (The Identity Armband was in a shop around floor 50, so yes, you really would need to dive that deep in order to get each copy.)

In any case, here's the dive with all my notes. If you really want to try it,

(a) knock yourself out, and

(b) post a comment about your experiences with this dive, I'm curious to know.

General Tips and Strategy

I didn't use consumables items until I had a chance to at least price them. I used virtually every opportunity to create monsters. I bought and consumed every monster house scroll I could find, I tripped every summon monster trap I could find, I broke monster and walrus jars, too, just so I could kill more monsters and have a chance at more items. In other words, I can't guarantee that your experience will be the same as mine. At least I can tell you that both the Blank Scroll and the Identity Armband were available in shops. I never attempted theft, I gladly paid the 5K + 30K for these items, respectively. I found the Blank Scroll in a shop around floor 40. I found the Identity Armband in a shop around floor 50. I had more than 30K Gitan on hand when I found it, but it almost tapped me out, so you will have to be somewhat careful with money to ensure you have enough when the time comes.

Clear the floor before creating a monster house with a Scroll of Monster. Chose floors with a shop, with no other monster house (you can only have 1 per floor), and with a large empty room. Stand just inside the room, read the scroll, then retreat to the hallway. Once you clear the monster house, swing your weapon at every square to check for traps. Use the shop to price ID items you don't recognize and to sell extra loot so you don't have to waste it. If you don't have a Herb of Revival, consider waiting until you do; they aren't that rare in Final Puzzle. Don't create a monster house on a floor if it contains monsters that can shoot at you from a distance and give you a bad status effect. (This is how I died. Floor 54 had Daze Radishes which could throw Sleeping Herbs *through other monsters*, and I didn't have a Sleepless Armband. I was immediately put to sleep and killed. I should have waited for a better floor or until I found my next Herb of Revival.)

I believe I had found a Gaibara's Jar on an earlier floor and sold it here for a lot of money. I bought the Melding Jar, Giant Riceball, and both Air Bless scrolls. By this point, I was wielding a pretty formidable Mastersword, and I think I used the Melding Jar right away to combine 3 types of armor. It might have been better to wait until I found a Strengthening Jar (there is one on this run) and used to to bake my melding material before melding.

Misc items I had in inventory at this point that I ID'd with the help of the shop:

========

  • mahogany staff could sell for 225==postpone
  • cypress staff could sell for 630==doppelganger
  • plumwood staff could sell for 315==sloth

Notes

I stopped taking notes here. I recall that I had 2 revival herbs for most of the game, keeping one in a jar just in case it would consume both if I died.

I was turned into a crossbow chariot by a skull mage early on. I created ~200 iron arrows before reverting. I would have created more but the game didn't let me. I put 99 in a jar and kept 99 in my inventory. I was close to running out of iron arrows entirely by the time I died on 54F.

I got a bufu staff at one point and used it to generate multiple copies of Death Angel meat. (Don't swing it at Air Devils! Only throwing staves works on Air Devils.)

Definitely carry your Staff of Stability in your main inventory once you get the Strengthening Jars and/or Melding Jars. Save equipment that you want to meld. Put it in Strengthening Jars and ripen it before melding. Extract from jar, don't break it, so you can do the same trick again.

I had this equipment on me at the end:

  • Mastersword +32 w/2 mods
  • Iron Shield +23 w/4 mods
  • Strengthening Jar[4] w/4 weapons/armor that I was ripening up to level 8 before melding
  • Melding Jar[4]
  • Blank Scroll (to be used as Extraction Scroll, to re-use my Strengthening Jar for a 3rd time)
  • Death Angel meat
  • Victory Herb (was too greedy to eat this before creating the monster house)
  • 3x staves of over 30 charges each
  • Armbands: Identity, Rustless, Antidote, Antidrain, Pitchers
  • 30 iron arrows
  • 80 wooden arrows
  • 7 weapons/armor worth melding outside the strengthening jar, waiting their turn to bake

I died on floor 54F. I created a monster house on this level, which was really stupid because the level had daze radishes which could throw sleeping herbs from a long distance away *through* other monsters and I had no appropriate armband. I should have waited for a better floor.

This password was play tested only once and that run did not produce the featured ID Armband. Waste your time at your own risk.
