The Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki, or MDFW for short, is the definitive Mystery Dungeon encyclopedia. This project's purpose is the total documentation of everything to do with Mystery Dungeon franchise. The MDFW is a place of learning for fans, enthusiasts, enjoyers, and casuals alike who wish to know more about the franchise and its history. We have a plethora of exclusive and hard-to-find information spanning games, anime shorts, manga, game music, soundtracks, guidebooks, novellas, unused content, lost media, demos, news archives, events, commercials, trivia, unofficial translations, glitches, and more.

Origins of the Wiki

The Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki originated as the Wikifoundry Shiren the Wanderer Wiki (née Wetpaint Wiki), founded by karmarogue on Wetpaint.com on March 11, 2008. The original wiki only covered the Nintendo DS release of Template:GameTitle in the West. It eventually grew to cover other Template:GameTitle titles, primarily the 4 based on the Nintendo DS. In 2013, WikiFoundry acquired Wetpaint. The wiki was shut down in 2016 by WikiFoundry due to anonymous users spamming the site. Shiren1111 (or Nerthing) adopted the wiki, demoted the old admins, and began cleaning up and reformatting the project for the first time in years. He was later joined by Rhaining. In mid-2018, WikiFoundry was experiencing numerous issues, such as only letting moderators and admins edit and eventually, preventing anybody from logging in. In September 2018, Rhaining and Nerthing, who were tired of dealing with issues on Wikifoundry, decided it would be best to look for a new host, and forked it to Gamepedia. After more than a decade on Wetpaint/WikiFoundry, the wiki was ported to Gamepedia.com by Rhaining and Shiren1111, where cleanup and expansion continued. In November 2018, SungHerSong joined the project, and was quickly made an admin.

On September 11, 2019, SungHerSong upgraded the Gamepedia Shiren the Wanderer Wiki into the Gamepedia Mystery Dungeon Wiki, and began absorbing and shutting down the various Fandom.com Mystery Dungeon Wikis, as part of Fandom's "community unification project". When Fandom announced they would be retiring the Gamepedia.com domain, and importing Gamepedia wikis to the Fandom.com domain on November 4, 2020, the wiki team began to prepare for separation from Fandom/Gamepedia. On November 7, 2020 admins Adkuate, Blue (then user), and SungHerSong took the wiki independent and rebranded it as the Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki to differentiate it from the Gamepedia branch. Four days later, the wiki was done being imported, and a years-long cleanup effort began. The scope was shifted to cover all things Mystery Dungeon, no longer being hindered by Gamepedia's game-only limitations, and once again, the site experienced exponential growth.

• 12:23: The darklorde creates the Shiren the Wanderer Fandom Wiki.

• 11:27: Swiftblizzard creates the PMD Rescue Team Wiki.

• Wikifoundry purchases Wetpaint Wikis.

• The PokeMysteryDungeon Wikia' is founded by SpiritDoesGaming aka Peppermint Butler.

2016

April 27

• An anonymous user posts to wikifoundrycentral.com to report scam posts and vandals taking over the forums section of the wiki. Wikifoundry staff private the wiki. Though it's still available via the mobile URL.

May 12

• Users begin asking about the wiki on GameFAQs.

May 18

• User wmllmw cites the GameFAQs thread on the Wikifoundry thread and asks to be promoted to admin to clean it up.

May 22

• User wmllmw announces that Shiren1111 has the WikiFoundry Wiki as an admin, and begins cleanup.

2017

May 22

• User raining requests additional permissions to aid in expanding the wiki, and to avoid having to deal with a captcha for every edit.^{[Citation needed]}

2018

February 1

• The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Series Wiki is founded by Awegamer2015.

• 07:18: The PMD Rescue Team Wiki is partnered with the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Darkness and Sky Wiki.

• Shiren the Wanderer 3's Wetpaint Wiki is ported to WikiFoundry.

September 11

• Rhaining begins to grow tired of the WikiFoundry website and begins to look for alternative hosting websites.

September 17

• Rhaining gets the go-ahead from Gamepedia to have the Shiren Wiki ported to Gamepedia.com.

  • The Shiren Wiki is officially on Gamepedia.com.
  • Rhaining is made Wiki admin and begins porting of the old wiki with Shiren1111.

• 11:07: The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Fan Wiki discord server is made by Gyrkkus.

Novemebr 18

• The PMD Wiki is founded by Quill, a member of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Community Wiki Discord, for users to test out the idea of making a new wiki.

December 10

• SungHerSong joins the wiki cleanup as a wiki admin and porting project.

2019

April 12

• The WikiFoundry Shiren the Wanderer Wiki is finally finished being ported to the new home on Gamepedia.com.

July 21

• Yggy joins as a wiki editor.
