Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki:Rosetta Stone Project

The Rosetta Stone Project was created by Jubilee on December 30, 2018‎, on the Gamepedia Shiren the Wanderer Wiki. The project was originally created as a table to keep track of the Shiren 1 SFC English Unofficial Translation names for items, alongside the official English names, and the Japanese originals. It eventually grew to encompass  Shiren 1 SFC Japanese names, and the Korean and Chinese unofficial patch names. The page was renamed from "Shiren 1 Item Lookup Table" to "Shiren 1:Rosetta Stone (Items)", which is the current naming scheme used by all Rosetta Stone pages across the wiki.

The project continued to evolve over the years, as the wiki grew, matured, and changed scope. The unofficial translation patch names were removed, and a new page was created to host them by B on January 24, 2024. The scope change began with  Magic Castle DS, due to the Rosetta Stone (Monsters) being updated to denote where the names used for monsters in the Magic Castle DS Wiki came from. Games with official localizations, such as  Shiren 3 Wii only listed the English and Japanese names, while games such as Shiren 1 or  Moonlight Village GB were completely refactored to suit the new format.

Over the years, the Rosetta Stone Project was expanded to cover more than just the games, such as anime shorts, soundtracks, and more.

On September 7, 2022, a new type of Lore List was created. It was a second attempt at a "universal" Rosetta Stone page for the Shiren the Wanderer series items. Due to the excessive number of Japanese names/video game entries, and the "cram everything into a table" mentality of the time, the project was unfeasible, and was abandoned while the wiki was still on Gamepedia. The new List of Herbs and Seeds for the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series was meant to denote which games each item appeared in, while also listing their official English names in the localized English titles. While they're not entirely the same as the other Rosetta Stone pages, they're considered to be a branch of the ever-evolving Rosetta Stone Project.
