The Ashigarudon has a unique leveling order in each appearance. Shiren 2 was the first game to feature this monster family, containing 4 levels - Ashigarudon, Samuraidon, Taishodon, and Tonosamadon, with the following respective abilities: None, Return some damage incurred by attacks, Return projectiles, and Return magic. The family was later featured in Magic Castle, releasing directly after 2. Monster families in Magic Castle typically contained only 3 members, so one of the levels of the Ashigarudon monster family had to be cut; Chunsoft opted to remove Ashigarudon, being devoid of an ability, leaving them with Samuraidon, Taishodon, and Tonosamadon. For the remake of Magic Castle for DS, where monster families typically had 4 levels - a practice mainly set by Shiren 1 DS, another level had to be added to the monster family from Magic Castle. In the case of Shiren 1 DS, this typically meant creating a new Level 1, like Rice Baby, or a level 4, like Hell Dragon. Instead of bringing back Ashigarudon, a new level 4 was added, Daimyodon, which combined the effects of Samuraidon, Taishodon, and Tonosmadon.
