Meta:Mystery Dungeon Wiki Unification Project

The Mystery Dungeon Franchise Wiki Unification Project is an effort to unite all the scattered Mystery Dungeon Wikis under a single banner.

Death and Deletion

Every Mystery Dungeon Wiki, save the current iteration of the MDFW has one thing in common; They were all abandoned and deleted.

• The original Shiren the Wanderer wiki was deleted, revived, and then deleted again when Wikifoundry went under.
• The Shiren 3 Wiki was abandoned and then deleted alongside it.
• The PMD Rescue Team Wiki was abandoned by its admins, closed to edits, and then deleted.
• The Explorers Wiki was abandoned by its creator and deleted.
• The Fandom Shiren the Wanderer Wiki was abandoned and deleted.
• The (Gamepedia) Shiren the Wanderer Wiki was upgraded to the Mystery Dungeon Wiki, and was later deleted after being forked to the MDFW.
• The PMDWiki never got off the ground, and was a short-lived sandbox.
• The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Series Wiki was abandoned and deleted.
• The Etrian Mystery Dungeon Wikia was abandoned and deleted.

That's not a series of coincidences or a pattern; it's practically a guarantee. They were all created, the creators and editors grew bored or got overwhelmed, left, and the wiki was deleted.

Lone Survivor

So what makes this project the lone exception to the rule? The Wiki Council wholeheartedly believe that this wiki thrives because we're stronger together than apart. If somebody makes 5 articles for  World of Dragon Warrior: Torneko: The Last Hope or makes a few lore pages for the  Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon series and gets bored or overwhelmed and moves on, the project as a whole doesn't die. Thus our scope is what keeps us alive. Those Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon lore pages may have sat unedited for the last 4 years, however, the site as a whole hasn't died due to inactivity due to always having active editors elsewhere on the wiki.

As the wiki continues to grow in size, so too does its staying power. As new fans discover the site and begin to contribute, the wiki becomes a more viable resource, in the process, letting users know they're not wasting their time by contributing to a project that will be deleted in a year or two like all of the others.

Unification

So why bother with unifying all of the existing wikis instead of starting fresh? It's our way of paying respect to those who came before us. It's our way of saying their efforts weren't in vain, that their contributions mattered, and have been preserved in our page histories. In many cases, other users have created articles before we did, and we want to show that while we may have essentially written some of these articles from the ground up, that doesn't mean we were the first to do so. In addition, an {{ambox}} informs about the page's origins at the bottom of it and its edit history is archived, meaning their past editors are also present in its changelog.

With each and every wiki that gets absorbed into the MDFW, we believe it further proves our theory; that the only way this project is still around is because we were united under a single banner. Stronger together than apart, we can build a reputable resource for Mystery Dungeon fans to call home.
