This Green Slime Family page is about the Nintendo DS release. For the Super Famicom release, see Shiren 1 SFC:Green Slime Family.
For the lore page, see Shiren:Green Slime Family.

The Green Slime (Japanese: ミドロ, Midoro Kei) Monster Family in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer consists of:

  1. Green Slime (Japanese: ミドロ, Midoro)
  2. Purple Slime (Japanese: ゲドロ, Gedoro)
  3. Grey Slime (Japanese: オドロ, Odoro)
  4. Red Slime (Japanese: チドロ, Chidoro)

Monster Ability

The Green Slime family can use its special attack to weaken Shiren's equipment by rusting it. Grey and Red Slimes can additionally remove Runes from Shiren's equipment.

The Rustless Armband prevents equipment from getting rusted, but not from having seals removed.

  • Level 1: Attacks can lower the quality of Shiren's equipped weapon or shield by 1 if it is not plated.
  • Level 2: Attacks can lower the quality of Shiren's equipped weapon or shield by 2 if it is not plated. It may multiply if attacked.
  • Levels 3 and 4: Attacks can lower the quality of Shiren's equipped weapon or shield by 3 if it is not plated and can remove plating and other seals. It may multiply if attacked.

Effect when Sealed

When sealed, Green Slime family monsters can no longer rust Shiren's equipment or remove seals and will always resort to regular attacks. They also will not multiply if attacked.

Combat Strategy

Slime multiplying is a nightmare in Shiren the Wanderer. You can prevent this from happening with the effect of a Sealing Staff so that it will not multiply and weaken your equipment.

If you do not have a Sealing Staff, another possibility is to unequip your weapon and shield, if rust-vulnerable, so that the slime will not weaken your equipment and/or equip equipment that is immune to rusting.

(Note that Green Slime Family monsters CAN rust Wood Shields and Cudgels, but cannot rust Golden Blades, Gold Shields, or Hide Shields and that the level 1 and level 2 members of this monster family cannot rust any equipment with the "Gld" seal, obtained by melding with a Gold Shield or a Golden Blade or via a Plating Scroll. (Note that the level 3 and level 4 monsters of this family can remove seals from weapons, making the "Gld" seal not very useful against them, as they will spend their first turn removing the "Gld" seal from the weapon.)

A useful tactic for fighting the level 2 - 4 Green Slime Family monsters is to lure the Green Slime Family monster into a hallway, such that there is only one area where the Green Slime Family monster can multiply. This greatly reduces the time it would take to defeat the Green Slime Family monster, as with more places for the Green Slime Family monster to multiply, the player would have to fight many more monsters, which in turn can multiply themselves. Note that this advice is only valid if it takes the player more than two hits to defeat the Green Slime Family monster. If the player can reliably defeat the Green Slime Family monster in two hits, then the above strategy is invalid, as the Green Slime Family monster would only be able to multiply once, making it the same if the player is fighting the Green Slime Family monster in an open area or if the player is fighting the Green Slime Family Monster in a hallway.
