The Dragon (Japanese: ドラゴン) Monster Family is a recurring group of four monsters in the Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer series. It made its debut in Super Famicom Mystery Dungeon 2: Shiren the Wanderer in 1995, making it one of the Original Monster Families. Its most recent appearance was in Nintendo Switch/Steam Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island in 2024.

The Dragon Family consists of:

  1. Dragon (Japanese: ドラゴン)
  2. Sky Dragon (Japanese: スカイドラゴン)
  3. Ark Dragon (Japanese: アークドラゴン)
  4. Hell Dragon (Japanese: アビスドラゴン)

Related additional families include the Evil Dragon monster family that first debuted in Nintendo DS Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 4 - The Eye of God and the Devil's Navel in 2010, and the Giga Dragon Family(UT) - This is an unofficial translation..

Biography

Characteristics

Despite being called "Dragons", the majority of their depictions are Wyverns, with Game Boy Color Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer GB2 - Magic Castle of the Desert, Shiren 4, and Shiren 5 being the only media depicting them as Dragons.

Dragons were erroneously translated as "Dragon Head" in Wii Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 3 - The Sleeping Princess and the Karakuri Mansion by Atlus, which is the level 2 monster in the Floor Dragon Family that didn't appear in the game.
