Shiren:Cross-Mixing
Template:Shiren Localizations Table Row
Cross-Mixing (Japanese: 異種合成) is a subtype of the Fusion mechanic in the Template:GameTitle. It made its debut in Template:GameTitle in 2000.
Classification
Cross-Mixing allows players to feed a Mixer a Weapon or Shield, followed by other types of items such as Scrolls, Herbs, and Projectiles to add special Runes that wouldn't normally be possible to their equipment.
Unlike normal Fusion, Cross-Mixing is limited to the Mixer Family of monsters, and not every game featuring them also features Cross-Mixing.
The exact items and their Runes differ between games, as do the mechanics. Such a how it's possible to add a Rune Slot to an item in Shiren 2, by feeding a Mixer a Blank Scroll, while this doesn't work in Shiren 3, or how it's possible to consume Mixer Meat in Shiren 3 and walk over items to fuse them, but meat doesn't exist in Shiren 2.
Name Etimology
The Japanese name of Cross-Mixing is the Japanese name of Fusion (合成) prefixed with the word 異種, meaning "different types". As such, a possible literal translation of the Japanese name can be "heterogeneous synthesis".
The English name is based on the English name of the Mixer Family, used to perform this type of item Fusion, prefixed with "Cross", indicating that it involves different categories of items. However, this removes the naming link to the Fusion mechanic.
