Cross-Mixing (Japanese: 異種合成, Heterogeneous synthesis) is an Item subtype of the Fusion mechanic in the Template:GameTitle. It made its debut in Template:GameTitle in 2000.

Unlike normal Fusion, Cross-Mixing is limited to the Mixer Family of monsters, and not every game featuring them also features Cross-Mixing.

Cross-Mixing allows players to feed a Mixer a Weapon or Shield, and then items such as Scrolls, Herbs, and Projectiles to add special Runes that wouldn't normally be possible to their equipment.

The exact items and their Runes differ between games, as do the mechanics. Such a how it's possible to add a Rune Slot to an item in Shiren 2, by feeding a Mixer a Blank Scroll, while this doesn't work in Shiren 3. Or how it's possible to consume Mixer Meat in Shiren 3 and walk over items to fuse them, but meat doesn't exist in Shiren 2.
