Detours (Japanese: わきみち) are obstacles in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity that appear in dungeons to prevent the player from fully exploring certain fixed floors. Using items such as the Mobile Orb does not allow to reach the blocked area, instead Keys, money and/or Pokémon of a specific type are required to explore the rest of the floor. Inside a detour, items and Pokémon that don't appear in the rest of the floor or dungeon can be found. Training Switch tiles can also be found.
To open a detour that needs a Pokémon of a specific type, said Pokémon doesn't just need to be in the current party, but also near the detour itself.
The Detour Guide is a facility that can be built in Paradise that notifies the player when a detour floor is reached if the option is enabled, can be upgraded to sell Keys and provides an incomplete list of detours.
Some detours can only be found if the dungeon was entered from the Request Gate after selecting a mission that allows reaching the detour floor. The regular versions of the Telluric Path and Tyrian Maze dungeons can only be accessed during the story, so there is only one chance to fully explore their detour floors, excluding the Strange Power versions, which are different.
Using a Monster Orb in a detour room won't cause detour-only Pokémon to appear in the resulting Monster House.
