| A | Attack. |
| A + B | Pass turns. |
| L+A/B/X/Y | Use a move. |
| L+R | Throw assigned item. |
| D-Pad/Circle Pad | Walk in the selected direction. |
| B + D-Pad/Circle Pad | Run in the selected direction. |
| X | Open general menu. Press again to open moves menu. |
| Y | Change the faced target Pokémon. |
| Y + D-Pad | Change the faced direction. |
| Hold Y during turn | Skip animations. |
| B + Y | Open the message log. |
| Y + X | Look Around. |
| Tap B | Open items menu. |
| R + D-Pad/Circle Pad | Move diagonally. |
| Start/Select | Change what is shown on the bottom screen. |
