This Monster page is about monsters in Template:GameTitle for the Nintendo DS. For Super Famicom release, see Shiren 1 SFC:Monster. For the Smartphone release, see Shiren 1 SP:Monster. For the monsters lore page, see Shiren:Monster.
For a full list of monsters in Shiren 1 DS, see Shiren 1 DS:List of Monsters.

Monsters (Japanese: モンスター) are creatures found in dungeons. They're almost all hostile and will attack Shiren on sight with few exceptions. For a full list of monsters, organized alphabetically by family, see: List of Monsters.

Spawning

Each dungeon floor spawns with a number of monsters, and new ones are spawned after a set number of turns. For example, Every 90 turns, a new monster will spawn in Road to the Hamlet. This can't be used indefinitely, as each dungeon has a set number of turns before the Winds of Kron will blow, kicking the player out of the dungeon, meaning each dungeon floor can spawn a limited number of monsters. Killing monsters will add to the player's score, 125 points for every kill, but they'll lose a point for every turn spent in the dungeon, which makes it a balancing act.

Players can create an artificial Monster House by reading a Monster Scroll, however, this will not work if a monster house is already present on the floor.

Combat

Monsters fall into one or two of the following types. Monster types are either susceptible to increased damage or their power is prevented from working due to item effects. Such as the Walrus Shield preventing Thief-type monsters from sealing your items or a Dragonward halving fire damage from Dragon-type monsters. This adds a level of sophistication to combat, requiring players to keep several weapons and shields, or ideally, to meld them together, using a Melding Jar.

Many players will opt to farm rare item seals over time, to create the most powerful gear in the game, a Kabra Reborn +99 with all beneficial seals and a Stormward +99 with all beneficial seals. When playing traditionally, however, it's incredibly unlikely the player could ever achieve such a feat. The below table can be used to learn the basics of monster weaknesses, while the monster pages go into more detail about combat strategy, weaknesses, spawn locations, and more.
