Gitan (Japanese: ギタン) is currency in / Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island. It can be found in dungeons, and can also be obtained by selling items, by defeating monsters in the Froggo Family or Metal Ninja Family, making Metal Ninja Family monsters throw Gitan, inserting items into Cashing Pots, reading Gambler's Scrolls, or through the Golden Sword + Golden Shield Resonance effect.

Shiren 6 added a quality of life option in the menus that can either allow or prevent Gitan in the inventory from being automatically added to the players currency counter. Without this, players would have to store it in Pots, or wouldn't be able to auto-sort their inventory using the Y button without storing their Gitan in Pots. It can be enabled and disabled at any time in the settings.

Gitan has two primary uses in gameplay.

Purchase Power

Its main purpose is to purchase items in dungeon or town shops.

Throwing Power

Gitan can also be used to damage enemies if thrown, however, it has a chance to miss, as does any item. By pressing B to dash over a bag of Gitan, or switching places with a monster standing on a Gitan bag found in a dungeon, the player can exchange it with another item. It can then be thrown at a monster, dealing damage equal to 20% of the value of that Gitan bag.

Caution

Thrown Gitan bags heal Froggo family monsters instead of damaging them. This likely means they have a Hidden-type, the Gitan-type, due to how Monster-type Mechanics work in Shiren games.

Removal

When it's in the currency inventory, it can be removed by purchasing items, depositing it in the bank in Shukuba Beach, having it stolen by the Froggo Family, throwing it while transformed into a Metal Ninja Family monster, or exiting a dungeon in defeat.

Selling Gitan

Gitan normally cannot be sold. When placed in a Dungeon Shop, it is ignored by the Shopkeeper, and in menu shops, it cannot be selected. However, at the Warehouse in Shukuba Beach, items can be sold, and the option to sell can be selected even on Gitan. The amount of Gitan received is the exact same as the amount of the Gitan item in the inventory, so this is just a quick way to move Gitan from the item inventory to the money inventory, so that it can be then deposited in the Bank, or immediately used to buy from shops.
