So, what do you want to know?

> How did you get to Yggdrasil's base?

  • That was some time ago. I'm getting on in years, so I retired from my job and went into teaching at a university. But one of my students, Sarah, made me want to renew my work on unearthing new dungeons legends. Her dissertation was astounding. She took a skyship out to a town on the farthest edge of the world to do research there. Using a skyship, I could do the same, even if I wasn't as strong as I used to be. I decided to go on a new journey. It was on that journey that I found this place. I still remember the excitement of laying eyes on Yggdrasil four years ago. Not knowing about the intense currents, I set a course straight for it. When I realized what happened, it was too late. I woke up to find myself in that forest. I'd fallen, skyship and all, to the Yggdrasil's base! It's a miracle I survived. But I'd broken several bones in the fall, and couldn't move. That's when Natasha saved me. She was the only surviving Keeper. They'd decided to stop having children when they noticed the seal was failing. They were probably planning to die out along with the Yggdrasil.

> Is Natasha Sasha's mother?

  • That's correct. Natasha and I are Sasha's parents. She was born in the Village of the Keepers about three years ago. Natasha passed away two years back. I believe she died of old age... She was far older than she looked, I suspect. After her passing, I took Sasha and went back to the university to write The Pact of the Tree of Life and the Embermen. Lizley and Sarah often watched over Sasha while I was at work on the book, but I never told anyone of her ancestry. It was Natasha's wish that I raise Sasha like a normal girl until adulthood. Though I suppose that secret's out now... I plan to tell her everything one day. About her mother, about her people, the Keepers... But until then, it's a real blow every time I hear my own daughter call me Uncle Nixon. But I did leave her for over a year... I suppose it'll be a little longer before she acknowledges that I'm her father.

> Why did you go into hiding?

  • I did it to protect Sarah and Sasha. But that doesn't really answer the question... It's a long story, but I'll tell it. Soon after I left the village, they found DOE amber in a nearby country. The nobles formed a secret treaty to destroy it. The idea was to prevent them from using it against each other. Dropping a DOE amber from the sky would be cataclysmic. Ignorant of these backroom deals, I went ahead and published my book, in which I had described the Keeper village. That village made the perfect spot to dispose of the amber. It was in a remote, relatively inaccessible location. But I never specified exactly where the village was in the book. I was worried people would retrace the dangerous route. That suited the nobles fine. They were concerned for their own hide, and didn't want anyone finding the DOE amber. After interrogating me about the village, the nobles tried to silence me. They banned my book, put a contract on my life... Strange that one of their assassins for hire ended up saving my life, isn't it? Fate can be a very mysterious thing. After Kasumi told me of the nobles' plot, I hid in this town. But I was worried for the safety of my loved ones. So I had Kasumi let Magan know of my role as a labyrinth archaeologist, and left Sarah a note with this message: 'I'll be gone for some time. Please go to Aslarga to investigate the dungeons in my place, and look after Sasha.' I stayed in hiding even after they both arrived. No point in calling them out here if the assassins knew I was in town. And that's why I never revealed myself. Hopefully you see now what I meant when I said I was protecting Sarah and Sasha.

> What have you been doing here?

  • Well, first I ordered the new model of skyship. I didn't expect there to be a town here, and I needed to be prepared. Then I thought they might call off the assassins if the DOE amber at the Yggdrasil's base was exposed. The nobles kept the new model skyship for themselves, so I paid Kasumi with my book profits to get the plans. After that, I worked at the Explorers Guild to keep an eye on Sarah and Sasha while I deciphered ancient texts. I needed to find out how to lift the seal. Natasha didn't know, you see. The seal was put in place long before her time. To lift the seal, I needed both the spell and a Keeper as its catalyst. I finished deciphering the spell and the method of lifting the seal just as your crew came to town. But I couldn't act immediately. We needed forts to defend against the DOEs and people strong enough to defeat Muspell. The forts were in place soon after, but it was hard to gauge adventurers' strength against the total unknown of Muspell. So I decided anyone good enough to master the sixth dungeon could take on the Land of Flame. That turned out to be you. I didn't want too much time wasted on the search for the sixth dungeon, so I made that ornate board. You can see now why I took such a roundabout approach. It was all to keep my presence hidden.

> Nothing at the moment.

  • All right. But keep in mind that I'm only here temporarily. I hope there's nothing you forgot to ask...
